I recently fitted one
i drew a line squarely on the hull from the keel to the deck,
next mark at what hight the centre should be,
drill a small  hole and feed a length of rod thru to check it is level
then once your happy drill the main hole the size of this should be a few mm
smaller than the bowthruster tube. then file the hole to fit the thruster in place
giving a tight fit

As an add on to the previous advice I found that if a good tight fit was made when fitting the thruster tube it was a lot easier to mantain its position when epoxying in. A drop of superglue held it in place while dobbing in the resin/isopon.  Don't forget you need to check the squareness from front, rear and above.
