VIDEO DOWNLOAD TIME ON YOUTUBE
« on: May 30, 2014, 02:03:57 pm »

Have just set my videos of New Brighton Hovercraft to download on to you tube....the longest video is 4minutes 17 seconds long................it is going to take 355 minutes to download that onto you tube according to the timer.........have I done something wrong, not pushed the right button or does it always take so long....the size of the file being down loaded is 1.04gb......should I set my camera next time to video in smaller res/size......or does every one who down loads have to wait such a long time for the process to happen.

cheers, neil.

sorry, my mistake, in the ime it took me to write this message the time went up from 355 mins to 1273 minutes.................WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!!......please tell me there's a quicker way. ta.

You are uploading to tube Neil.
If you check your internet speed the upload speed is a lot slower than
your download speed for summit coming in from internet.
Plus you may be queuing with your upload.

1 gb does seem a bit large for a 4 minute film, I have vids which are over 10 mins long and only 50mb

What File format is it ?.

Also run this , just to see what your upload speed is, Mine is about 12-15mb

Larry.......I'm sorry mate but all this is foreign language to me.......I can reset the camera for stills to give pixel size for jpeg files,

but have absolutely no idea as to what you mean by "what file format are you using" technology just doesn't sink in to me, and the older I get the worse I am about taking in such things......but if you explain to me, I'll try to understand. neil.

It Might do, I often find things easier direct from the pc rather than a device.

Do you have Windows Movie Maker ?.  As this can make videos suitable for Youtube.

If you find where you have saved the file it should say the type of file it is, if not if you click on the View item at the top of the screen it should give you the option to List DETAILS, this should tell you the actual type of file.

Just thinking aloud - but if you use an online service, it still has to see the original, full size, file.  It will probably take the exact same time to upload, your line and connection being the bottleneck for any upload.

Move maker is very useful, and best of all, it's free. Go on Neil, be a devil, download it ;)  It's easy to use and I use it regularly.

From my limited understanding, It would be fair to say that uploading anything, includes photos, emails, etc, etc, etc, always takes longer.
The slower your download speed the longer (read slower) the uploading takes.

All ISP's concentrate on so called super fast downloads which anyway, are never achieved, whereas uploading can be at least 50% slower or more.

Its all in the fine detail of your package O0 O0 O0 O0

Even speed tests are not definitive but only a surprising indication.

Just perserve and hope your ISP does not drop the connection, which they do, to preference downloading, before the upload is completed otherwise you start all over again. >>:-( >>:-( <*< <*<

As Malcolm put it..It will probably take the exact same time to upload, your line and connection being the bottleneck for any upload. O0 O0 O0 O0

Not Sure, I have used Moviemaker to convert to u tube compatible and the file is considerably smaller.

Neil, if you are running win7, find the movie file that needs treatment, and RIGHT click it.  You will get a drop down menu appear.  About half way down is the option to "Open with", which will offer a bunch of choices, one of which should be "Windows Live Movie Maker".  Click that and go for a brew.
It should appear with your movie sitting in the timeline/storyboard.  Top toolbar, right hand end, is "save", which gives resize options.  There is also a box with links to items like YouTube, clicking that gives a set of recommendations, which presumably work.  Unless you have really fast PC, anything involving movie rendering can take a lot of time, so its an opportunity to take a boat for a sail.

The program itself is well hidden, living at C:\program files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Galley , but right clicking the file you want to convert will find it for you.  If it really isn't in, it is a free download from MS, just needs a younger person to download and install for you.

What camera did you record on seems like you  are either HD ot r dv  which is around13 Gb per hour . usually the cameras have software with them  allowing you to change to more compact format
You could download G spot  this will tell you exactly what format and everything about your  movie its dead simple you just open it  enter the  file and  all  is done
. Once you know the format  it will be easier to   choose a conversion  there are several freebies most superior to Wmm

It will be a bitrate thing.

You can upload a 50mb/s full hd movie to youtube if you like, however they will only spit it out at something like 5mb/s...

Upload speeds on none fibre lines are an insult in this country and your video has too high a bit rate to warrant it taking the time its suggesting.
