Apache 56 Zenoah Engine mix
« on: July 09, 2014, 07:43:38 pm »

Hi,

Hope it's ok to post and ask the following in this section.

Looks like I ain't going to sell my Apache 56 so time and work permitting I may as well try and run it!

So what petrol / two stroke oil mix is recommended for test running such a boat and engine, 40:1 ?

Also what about air / fuel mix, don't want to run it too weak and hole a piston.

Is it ok to run the engine for a short while out of water, if so how long for?

Where and when is a good time to test run a boat, preferably when others know what they are doing.

I am located in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Thanks for any advice.

Pete.

Hi

Apache is a great boat.

Oil / petrol mix depends on engine. If running race engines, zen, rcmk, tk, etc, either stock or tuned, you are best to run 16:1 average mix. 40:1 definitely too little oil.

Needle settings will depend on engine and carb. Plug condition will determine when you have got needle mixture correct. Black oily plug means too rich, grey means too lean. Tan is optimum,

You shouldn't need to run engine out of water?

As for testing, you need to find local club which allows if engines.

My nearest one is 62 miles away, at brid. !! Long drive but fab facilities.

Sorry my reply is brief, but hope it help.

Best regards

Hi Garry,

Thanks for the reply.

Got 40:1 mix from other bigger 2 stroke engines.

Same deal with the spark plug colour, I will check, thanks.

Reason I want to run the engine out of water is to check it starts before, like you, I travel a far distance to a lake only to find out it won't start.

Regards,

Pete.

Hi

You should have no prob running engine out of water. I do like wise when testing engines for starting.

Don't run it for to long, (a minute or so max.) don't rev it too hard. Just blip the throttle.

Any longer, set up a bucket with silicone feed to cool engine, manifold and rest.
