TID Tug fittings.
« on: July 08, 2007, 10:31:36 am »

Hello,

I am pushing on now with 3 of the 5 builds I have got in progress so I am now searching for a 1/32 anchor windlass for my TID. I have already looked at Mobile Marine Models but I couldn't see a suitable one there. Also how do I measure for suitable rope fenders for the bow and stern of the TID. Even better can someone supply the correct part number from MMM so I can order off them.

This is my first attempt at a scale tug and I am finding it a steep learning curve, I did built the Vic Smeed Tiddler when it was published in Model Boats but I used lesro fittings and didn't fit any rope fenders. For those that keep old magazines there is a partial photo of it on page 26 of the October 1991 edition of Marine Modelling, it is the background to the Eco Star photo top of the left hand page. I did a review of the Robbe Eco Star and then raced it at Eastnor Model Show that year.

Oops i digressed then ;D

Any advice on pitfalls or useful hints in building a TID or any tug is always welcome. I have plans for the Al Khubar and Ngan Chau lined up to build next year.

Clive :)

Hi Ian,

I only recently found the time, I bought the TID as a Sirmar semi kit back in 2002 finally got started on it about 3 months ago. I also have  the following in progress:

Sirmar HDML that I need running gear for. Also bought 2002 and only started 2 weeks ago.
Deans PBR that I decided to add extra detail to and now wish I hadn't as I got bogged down on the detailing. Bought this in 2000/2001 when they were first released.
My Springer Tug that just needs painting and deck fittings.
Last but by no means least a Graupner Lotse I bought on Ebay last year that needs a total rebuild.

I tend to build several at a time and when I come to a halt on one I do more on another. This weekend I drilled and cut the superstructure and started glueing on fittings. I have also put in all the deck beams and next step is the deck itself

Haven't been 100% for a few weeks and the weather is lousy so my weekends have been spent in front of the TV with a building board. I have enjoyed watching some classic films over the last two weeks. Today I watched the Hits channel as they had top 100 power ballads on. Probably spending about 12 hours a weekend on building at the moment.

Mind you I also have a Model Slipway FSB Tenby to build when I get done, a Model Boats Tyne hull and planset to build as well as a 1 metre yacht to rig. Not forgetting a choice of plans.
