Stripping paint on armoured trawler
« on: June 20, 2014, 06:30:59 pm »

Hi I have been trying to take the millions of layers of paint to get back to fibreglass hull. Tried fairy power spray which took one layer off but nothing else. Is there any other way, been trying to chip it off but I'll still be here in 50years.

You won't need to leave it very long at all it'll be wipe on- wipe off.  Wet a rag and wipe on and see how it goes.

If you find you need a lot you can buy 'gun cleaner' (that's spray gun) from a motor factor last time I bought some it was about £15 for 5Ltrs - very much cheaper than your average model shop who only stock small cans anyway.

Warning:  keep away from non-grp plastics - particularly styrene,  And beware of fumes - best done outdoors, 'though personally I just switch on an extractor fan.

If by any chance that doesn't work, it may be an epoxy paint.  In that case your only real option is to rub it down and repaint.
