What motor set up for MFV Eileen 35mm prop ?
« on: June 24, 2014, 09:19:32 pm »

Hello all, i am building Eileen and fancy putting her on the water. So, as I know nothing about RC can anyone suggest a good quiet motor set up ? I have always been put off by RC boats that appear unnaturally fast, I believe that the hull and ballast have a lot to do with appearance when moving thru the water.

I am on a budget so can't go crazy. I picked up a 35mm prop which looks right as I recall the seiners in Montrose always had much smaller props than you would have imagined. Also they never really exceeded 9 knots.
Any suggestions / guidance appreciated.

Cheers
Mike

Hi I built an Eileen many years ago from th M B plan. I used a 385 motor embeded in silicon on the mount. It ran very nicely and was totaly quiet as well. The 385 is happy on a range of voltages from 6 to 15. I used 9.6 because that was what I had spare, but seldom ran flat out. Sorry, can't remember the prop it had, but 30 or 35 will be about right. Good luck.
