Having searched for years to find a kit, I purchased a second hand one on ebay that needs some TLC. Your build is an inspiration and have set my minimum standards of achievement. Will be back for more details once I have received my build instructions and plans auf Deutsch from the very helpful folk at Graupner. having purchased it, There's now a kit on ebay with 1 day to go for £400 if anyone is looking to obtain one! Item I'd is 181731816072 - I may still but it feels a very greedy thing to do.

Love the lighting, must have working radar and sound and a posh interior for the lighting to show off. All I need now is time.....

Looking forward to your sea trials! :-))

I've had to muddle through without English instructions, the seller kindly only sent the German ones! But between the pictures provided and the plans I think I've muddled through! I was toying with building a proper interior, but aside from adding a fair bit of weight I wasn't convinced you would really see it behind the tinted glazing. Did you get yours off German eBay? Would love to see how you get on with it. From experience I think building a fresh kit is easier than a refurb (depending how much TLC yours needs!).

Really look forward to seeing how you get on with it!

Some more progress, been working on asking off the seats and tables. Was time consuming but I think it was worth it.

Some pictures with the lighting in place:

Looking really good Tom. Yes I did find my ship on ebay.de. I managed to find one spare jet drive and reversing bucket as the one I have was missing a couple of bits. They could be made from brass or plastic card. The prop shafts and motors don't align - there are kinks in the universal joints that mate the two so it looks as though the motor mounts will need to be re-fitted. I'm now considering whether to replace the graupner jet drives with a more robust type. I've received the build plans from Graupner so have a better idea of what's under the skin, filler and 4 layers of tar that has spoilt the ship a bit. The scale of the rebuild is growing. I will try and find the time to upload some "before" pictures that indicates the starting point prior to some intricate disassembly and refitting of key parts. A few micro bot sites have possible solutions to the working radar scanner conundrum - oh yes and there's the radio control to fund and fit.

She's pretty much completed, just needs some crew and a few accessories. Thought I'd pump up the paddling pool and see how she looks at night!

Well finally got a chance to play properly! Up bury this evening, didn't quite get dark enough for the lighting to really show but you get the idea.

Hey Derek, she's running a benedini TBS mini through a 40w 2ch amp and two 4inch speakers. The engine sounds were as close to the quoted ones in the real thing, v16 MTU 43 litre diesels, the closest I could find were from a German diesel locomotive. I've also got another TBS mini with a gas turbine sound, however I'm having issues with the benedini running two Esc so I can't use the gas turbine one yet.

She probably weighs about 10kg with 3/4kg being batteries!

Thanks Tom......my comment of V8's was just a guess  :embarrassed:...but the turbo sound is very life like and is as you have downloaded the real thing

I had not heard of Benedini TBS mini ....but according to Google they do not require an armoured van or bank loan to purchase one  ;D .... Derek

Tom she looks great out on the water and that sound is brilliant - perhaps a little loud though? may just be the way the recording picked up the sound.

I bet you are very proud of her.

Hey, thanks very much, I would have the sound unit quieter but it struggles to be heard over the motors if I turn it down any more.

Hey Derek, yes the benedini system is very reasonable. My one with two tbs mini sound cards, amp, wiring and two speakers was £220 delivered from Germany. But most people would only need one tbs mini.

There's also the added benefit that the card can be reprogrammed with different sounds so can be swapped from boat to boat.

Very nice Tom.

Just a little porpoising there, try moving a little weight forward a bit, or else add a little inside the bows low down.

Little bit more on the trim tabs and she should be fine!

The boat's probably about £1600 with the f14, decoder, batteries etc so no I don't find it excessive for a decent sound unit, if you're going to do something do it properly!

Looks great Tom.

Really look forward to seeing that, would be great to have a pair running in the same place!

Hi TOM
When building Moonraker did you have a need to buy or make any etched standards for the handrail running round the
boat?
I need several and have no experience of where to go or what to do.

Happy New Year
