HMS Solebay
« on: July 01, 2014, 10:05:25 pm »

A few years ago I started a Deans HMS Solebay and I've finally got around to finishing it! So here are a few pictures of my trials and tribulations.

The smoke generator is made up of two Graupner 6v smoke units and an Action P68s.

The running gear is from George Sitek.

The sound unit is a destroyer whopper from Admiralty electronics.

The main gun turrets are mounted on standard servos and controlled by an Action P96 servomorph. The brass barrels are from Scalewarship.

The "birdcage" on the mast is from Scalewarship and the radar (John Haynes) revolves on a "hacked" micro servo.

I replaced quite a lot of parts with John Haynes parts. Such as Bofors, torpedoes, and carley floats. The squid launcher is from John Haynes and I modified the STAAG using John Haynes parts and scratch built parts. The radars on the STAAGs are made from dimples in a pill packet!

A few close-ups.

The ship's boats are modified from Quaycraft products.

The finished product. Painted with Acrylics from Halfords, Tamiya and Humbrol. The White Ensign and lettering are from BECC.

The model was sprayed all over with Vallejo satin varnish.

I can only get the video to play if I 'right click' on the image and download the linked file. Oh well!

I think Solebay turned out OK, have to get on with finishing my Yamato next!  :-))

Having used a Solebay kit as a donor kit for my HMS Aisne I know how awkward some of the parts can be.
I think you have done a great job.

Cheers Guys. It's been a bit of a slog and it's definitely not perfect, but overall I'm pleased with the result.

Lovely build Roger, Solebay was my first warship build when I retired, and is still my favourite model,  :-)) :-)) Joe.
