Scottish seiner rigging of net lifting boom
« on: July 02, 2014, 08:15:12 am »

Apologies if my description is inaccurate. I am building ME214 Coastal Girl. I have photos and went to sea on her several times, but I just cannot recall how the boom for lifting the nets aboard was rigged.

The boom swung from the deck at the side of the wheelhouse and was held by chains at the mid point and tip. There was a double pulley rig and hook for lifting the net aboard but I can't recall the routing of the halyard to the winch on the foredeck.

Any ideas ?

Normally passed the roller mounted at the front corner of the wheelhouse [one on each corner] then to a guide in front of the winch

Hi, I think it was for lifting the top boom to raise the mizzen sail, nemesis

sometimes they are A frames or they can be goalposts when they come up each side of the casing and the bar across the top holds the blocks used for lifting the codend containing any fish
