aye....a beautiful boat.....my daughter and I went for a trip on her when she came to Fleetwood last May on her evaluation trip around the coast to the stations that will eventually get one.......Fleetwood is earmarked for one next year, 2015........be sad to see our old boat go though. neil.

she had to be hauled out on to the Dockside at Fleetwood for running repairs to the titanium skid plates on her hull whilst in port.

The manoeuvrability of these is simply astounding, should make it a lot easier for the crews.

Shame I didn't get to have a hand in building them but oh well  %)

Yes is the answer to the question!
Full kit is on the go, perhaps a year away?
I am collecting info on the boat now. A pal is sending me hundreds of photos he has just taken but could do with some good gen on the hull.

Interestingly (or is that challengingly) the model at 1/12 has to weigh less than 20lbs all up so we are making a hull (a Trent one) in carbon less than 1mm thickto see how the idea works,

The jet drives are a real problem (scale ones).  Any thoughts/ideas are welcome.

Interesting news.  Any prospect of a 1:16 Shannon as well?

O0 O0 O0 Maybe Adrian has performed a miracle and managed to get the plans from the RNLI. I was talking to one of the designers today, and he assured me it will be a long time yet before any plans and drawings are released  ;) ;) ;)

Hi Adrian,

Have you thought about designing the hull to accept Kehrer Jet Drives instead of making your own?

Just had an afternoon on a Shannon. Fantastic boat and a straightforward model. Much less complicated outside than any of the older boats. Still prefer the looks of my Tamar though.

I like the idea of the kit taking a already produced jet drive.

In regards to Carbon this may be a great marketing idea but in reality will bring very little benefits on weight saving. It would be far better to not use any gel coat. Competitive radio sailing has great experience with these thin laminate and if you PM me I can lead you to a number of experts. But without using pre-preg it not going to give you anything better than a high quality glass twill as you will have to add a number of flow coats to stop it leaking and it will be fragile. For example SAILSetc state they use 1 layer of 200 gram/m2 and 1 layer of 125 gram/m2 on there http://sailsetc.com/magento/index.php/10r

It may be easier to go slightly out of scale or be less flexible on radio installation for example a single motor (I suspect a servo could vary power if people want) if weight proves an issue. I hope my modelling skills get up to the standard to justify a speedline kit they are very much the Rolls Royce of them all.

Hi all,
I am very interested in the concept of producing a scale jet drive (1/12).
At the moment I am working up the drawings for the original prototype FCB2 from photographs - no interest in the Shannon.
From the photos I have, the orifice of the jets scales out to about 17mm diameter (8" full size). Currently I am doddling around the idea of using a single centrifugal pump with its output split between the two orifices.
Needs a good bit of engineering to make scale operating units able to stand up to the rigours of operation.
Anyone else got any ideas.
Yours,
Alan C

having just finished a graupner jet drive in another boat I would say keep it simple as possible re jet drives, even the 'basic' units they do seem good and can take a lot more power than what graupner suggests

Just to let you know, I've given up on the Shannon.
Its been about ten years now and still its likely to change so enough is enough.
I'm into other things now and being historical, things are so much easier.

Hi all,
Thanks for the reply lankyandy - are you suggesting the Graupner units could cope with the outlets being reduced to 17 mm dia without running into problems of cavitation. No experience of these units myself.
