R1155 Vintage radio restoration
Positive:
When I feel I need a change from building miniature ship models, I go back to my original hobby of valve radio which I was very keen on when I was at school from 1949 to 1959.? ? ? Mostly, I design & builld miniature valve radio sets, but last Summer, I found this R1155 on a car boot sale.? ?The R1155 was the radio receiver fitted in Lancaster bombers during World War II.? ?It also had a Radio Direction finding facility for navigation.? ? ?I have now restored this set to working order.? ? In addition, using my model-making knowledge, I have greatly improved its looks cosmetically, so here we have a piece of "living history!"
Craig Kane:
Nice to seee a piece of history being preserved.
As an avionics technician, I learned the theory behind my trade on similar bits of kit, before progressing to the "slightly" more modern kit form Canberra's and Vulcans.
Think that these old radios are more reliable than the stuff we have nowadays, at least you could replace the broken bits!!

Went sailing on Wedensday very close to where the B.O.B.flight is based CK; and saw a Canbberra doing circuts and bumps quite a contrast to the Euro fighters which are based there. Also from time to time I see the B.O.B.flight comeing and going agreat sight and very nostalgic

We had Eurofighter in for a visit here at Lossiemouth a few weeks ago.........p**sed all over the Tornado's when it came to showing off each other's display routines. ;D ;D ;D
Looking forward to seeing the BBMF in the sky again this summer. Even my kids are impressed by them which is nice in this "Playstation generation".
