Lake district 1/1 scale boat charges.
« on: July 11, 2007, 04:04:28 pm »

Hi All,

Having tried various web sites, I have been unable to get any info re above charges.

So do any of you know if it is free to sail on the lakes, or if it's not, which I expect is the case, how do you pay the charges.

We are going there camping this summer, and we would like to take a Kayak or small sailing dinghy with us.
Although the site mentions that it has a launching slip, they do not mention charges for sailing on the lake.
E mails as normal, go unanswered. I know the boats there have registration stickers so it must be licenced.

Thanks in advance Bob

PS the site is on Windermere

I havent saoled on Windermere, but i beleive that there will be a launch charge from public slipways. Thats how it works on Coniston.

Have a look here:

Looks like its free unless you have a motor.  I would think the costs start when you want to moor a boat on Windermere.

Hi Frankie,

I used to canoe on Windermere when I lived up there. Canoeing is free though I did have to pay to launch from the public slipway at ferry nab. There are some places on windermere you can launch for free though. My favourite lake for canoeing on was Ullswater and there is a national trust car park half way down the lake. You can park up and carry your canoe across the road to launch it from a pebble beach.

I just phoned the lake wardens office and if you carry your canoe to the slipway and it has no engine then launching is free from Ferry Nab.

Also found this information for you: Boat launching and storage

Ferry Nab is the main public launching area with a public car park, toilet and shower facilities, public jetties, sailing dinghy storage and tender storage. It's the only public slipway available for power boats and large boats.

Small motor boats (5 horsepower or less) may launch from Waterhead. Sailing dinghies, canoes and rowing boats may be launched from serveral areas on National Trust land, Rayrigg Meadow and Beech Hill.

There are several private and commercial launching points, predominately on the eastern shore. These include sailing and power boat clubs, caravan parks, commercial jetties and marinas and several outdoor pursuit and activity centres.

Regards
Clive :)

Hi All,
Absolutely brilliant, just the info I was looking for  FREE.

As it will be just me or the wind it looks as if it will be free.

Just in from work and very tired so will read all the small print later.

Thanks again kendalboatman funtimefrankie and boatmadman.
