User names.
« on: August 09, 2014, 10:29:21 am »

As I scroll through the pages here on Mayhem, I come across some really funny and strange user names. Where do we get these from I wonder? I will start with a short story of how I got mine. I used to keep cold water fish, gold fish, fantails, koi etc. One day at the local pet shop my oldest son set his heart on a small ghost koi, we purchased the koi, and he or she got the name of spook. On that day, about 15 years ago, I set myself up with a hot mail account and decided to call myself spook@hotmail.com, after our new arrival of course. After 10 years of the same hot mail account, I had so much spam running through it Microsoft closed it down. This was the same week that spook had passed away. When I got around to opening a new account I decided on the name of spooksgone. It seemed to be a nice way to remember watching my eldest lad staring into that little poly bag with spook in, all the way from the pet shop to home, and seeing his little eyes light up as spook set about exploring his new home and friends.
Well that has brought back a few memories.
Any one else got a little story?

Easy. I used to run ACTion R/C Electronics and posted as "ACTion". When the business was sold I couldn't really continue being ACTion so, having retired and with little to do, I thought of a word which means the opposite - hence "Inertia". The avatar picture incidentally is a sloth............

No real story here, my nom de plume is merely a shortened version of my name.

Mine is from where I used to live, a massive disused Gravel Pit that was left to nature. I say massive as it is 11 kms round. Now home for a Sailing School and Club, SCUBA Diveing and occasional Model Boat regattas. We loved living there, but old Age and Fading Health saw that we moved to a Town, but we do miss the Lake.

Well my name is Joe, but when I was thinking about a user name it seemed a bit bland so I thought of Rodeo Joe a character I seemed to remember from when I was a boy, but then looking round my workshop I see so many RC Txs  I though actually Radiojoe is more apt  {-)

That's interesting Joe. I have seen your name on here quite a few times, I thought that maybe you were a disc jockey!

;) My user name comes from my surname "Sparkes" but when I was in the army my nickname was Ned,it took me a long time to find out why I was called Ned it seems that there was a notorious highway man in the west country called Ned Sparkes, mind you I don't hold up many coaches these days,I was never called it before I went into the army and never since, strange how we get nicknames and sometimes they stick for a long time,Ray. ;)

after going through a few nicknames at school (lurch, the honey monster, etc they finally settled on Grendel (we were doing english literature that term, our teacher read it to us in old english.)after school I took up viking re-enactment and the name followed. after a few years of that the name had sort of stuck, few knew me by my real name, so when the internet came by I just used my nickname - Grendel

 >:-o Kids can be so cruel with nicknames we had one called lugs because of his ears and another called pong because he didn't bath much, some nicknames are a term of affection and we tend to keep those ourselves I expect a lot of user names are that type, looking through the user name Mayhem list makes you wonder where they come from,Ray. %% %% %%
