I used to have a shop called Mersey Models so when I closed it and found you guys mermod seemed a good choice, Mayhem was also my first forum so I didn't realize you could use your name instead of a username or I would have just gone with Phill :)

Two reasons for mine, being of mixed blood and similar build to the weedy kid that was Kwai Chang Cain from the TV series 'KungFu' in the 70's, the nickname was appropriate according to my school friends when I lived in Hong Kong.
Later in life I took up RC cars and used to race a Tamiya grasshopper....

I use mine because I mess with old machinary (oldiron). It also fits me old - and crusty as iron

After 30-odd years farting about with RC cars, planes & boats, I got fed up with using wood for my models.

Having glow-fuel soaking into the balsa and having boat hulls eventually crack, I've settled on plastics & electric for everything now. So much easier to build, modify & repair!

Dreadnought72? Well, some might believe it's because of my first build thread detailing the construction of a 1/72nd scale model of HMS Dreadnought, which is living in this house, and currently "resting" in the attic.

In reality, it's because I might have finished it when I'm 72: February 15th, 2035.  :embarrassed:

First boat build.

Hi,  my thoughts are to acquire a cheap RC boat to see how everything works etc,  this will eventually spur me on to build a boat from scratch.  IF i was to keep the radio control box,  could i use a more powerful motor with the kept radio control box please ??

I am old enough to remember listening to the Radio program 'The Navy Lark'.  John Pertwee, Leslie Phillips and others all helped to make life for their rather hapless CO, Captain Povey, a bit of a trial. It seemed natural as a 'Povey' to use it.  :} Left hand down a bit, oops. Might also have been more suitable. Cheers, Graham

Hi Andy

The answer is probably yes, but bear in mind a cheap RC boat will come with a cheap Radio control gear, when you build your more expensive boat you may want a better RC gear, you can get a really good 2.4 gig for around 40 to 50 pounds.  O0

When I joined the first forum back in 1990 or so (hi-speed.dk for peugeot) I choose to use my Rottweiler's name = Tica and I have used that for almost all sites that I have a user on, even my own Danish modelboat forum www.skalamodelskibe.dk I'm know as Tica

I chose the user name Ardnave, after one of my favourite areas on the north west of the island of Islay....off the beaten track, sandy beaches/dunes, clear waters. 8)
