right you computer buffs I have today been given a hp printer copier  and scanner  my laptop is a Lenovo// printer is hp wireless c4580  no instructions  so how do I connect my lap top to hp  so as to print   (clear as mud ) thanks and please remember still a novice at computers

I have a HP wireless all in one printer though a different model, it came with a set up disc that made set up simple, even I could follow it,  they are excellent much better than my last Kodak that gave up on me admittedly after 3 years, now I can print from any where in the house and it uses less ink, I'm sure you will be pleased with it once you get it set up.

I didn't look, but it's usually possible to download the drivers for the printer as well.

It might just be possible to connect the printer to your Laptop and mains power,
then upon starting up you may find that you can install most of the required
info from the printer screen itself - ie. it gives you instructions on its own screen.
However I did need to use the disc to set up the photocopier facility on my HP 5520.

Even though it is a wireless printer it will have a cable port at the rear as well. Get a printer cable and connect direct to the puter's usb port. Once connected and switched on, depending on which version of windows you have (7 and later) should install drivers for you automatically.

What Brian56 said - use a cable for the initial setup, then sort out the wireless network connection.

most wireless printers need to be connected to a machine by cable to do initial setup (as they need to find the local network details), after setting up my printer has its own network cable to the router and works fine.

Don't connect anything till you run the disk, if the disk doesn't auto start after you load, it click on computer in the start menu where the disk will be listed, and manually start it the set up will tell you when and what to connect.

Most decent wireless modems have a button you press to link printers etc to it, you do not usually need to connect them with a cable first
