Refurb of a small trawler.
« on: August 20, 2014, 10:52:42 am »

Started work on an old trawler, vac formed hull-painted in gloss! Not good, tried to remove the paint and the runs but didn't want to add something too harsh, tried some paint stripper-on-left five mins and off-worked, sort of. I have ended up having to sand the best I could. The hull is thin and bends so had to be careful, did the best I could. Cleaned up, three coats of primer and then three coats of satin black. Not the best as the hull is still rumpled in places. But I will rust and add to it then add a seal coat.

Piccies soon.

The paint stripper hasn't effected the hull at all?

No Martin, but saying that, it wasn't on long, just wanted to try and soften the paint enough to try and get it off. I wasn't pushing my luck though so only left it a few mins and then it was taken off. Ended up sanding and it isn't the best.

I use fairy power spray on abs hulls.
It is a little kinder than stripper but does a
darn fine job on most paints.
