Yet another 'what motor question'
« on: August 31, 2014, 10:56:39 am »

Sorry to ask this but I am ignorant on the subject...........

I am thinking of getting a brushless motor for a 34 inch pilot boat i will be building. I don't want it to scream round the lake at very high speed but it would be nice if it could get up on the plane. most likely i will use a 2s 5000mah lipo battery. Problem is I have no real idea of what outrunner to buy. I am on a very limited budget so the cheaper the better.

I would welcome any advice.

Many thanks

What propeller diameter, pitch and style are  you going to use ? What shaft RPM are you looking at ?
Once you have the shaft RPM, you'll just have to find the right KV to match you battery.

Car ESC work great. They have reverse, usually come with decent heatsinks (and sometimes even small fans) which mean no water cooling to install.

Hi
If your on budget have a look at this sites(don't know if I can mention companies) but here goes Giantshark and Hobbyking.
I would start from a different approach and choose a motor with about 1000rpm or above per volt and then try different prop's tiii you find something that suits.  You may need to go to 3S but give it a try.
Im sure an expert will answer your questions better than me but may give you something to think about.

:-)) Hi,Cuppa, I have used hobbyking for brushless motors and ESC s the NTM are quite good and reasonably priced, for that size of boat I have used 750kv NTM propdrive 42-38 outrunner with 80anp ESC on 3c lipo , prop size I would start at 45-50mm 3 blade ,about 7500-8000 rpm with plenty of torque,I hope I have given you a starting point but like everything in this hobby a lot of trial and error is involved,Ray. :-))
