Boom Defence Vessel
« on: September 07, 2014, 03:00:43 pm »

Goodday to All,
I am new here on this forum.
I am searching for drawings (linesplan) from Royal Navy Boom Defence Vessels.
Especially the "Help" , which was build in 1943 at Smith's Dock Co. Ltd. te Middlesborough and the "Moorgrieve" build in 1944/45 at Goole Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. te Goole .
I do have deckplans etc. but I missing the linesplan to make a scalemodel of them.
Anyone who can help me ?
Sistervessels to Help ; Lifeline, Succour and Dispenser
Sistervessels to Moorgrieve ; Moorhen, Mooress

There was a model of a similar vessel on Ebay a week or so back. It had a few scale/ damage problems but was fitted out as a salvage vessel with salvage cages.

Good luck with your build Haverj

Those are not boom defence boats, but mooring vessels. Boom boats have some deck sheer forward, so as to lift the nets from the water, such as the bar boats and the Lay class, the wild ducks were hybrid design to do all things, but it made mooring work harder as traditionally mooring work designed vessels have a flat deck to work heavy chain and heavy lifting also wreck lifting vessels have also ballast tanks forward to as in lifting heavy weights.

Further to what Dodes said,
Moorgrieve was a Mooring Vessel
Sold in 1964 and renamed Octopus
Help was a Salvage and Wreck dispersal Vessel.

They were not Boom Defence Vessels.

RMAS Goosander was one of the "Wild Duck" class of Mooring, Salvage and Boom Defence.
As Dodes said a hybrid class.
Any questions on this class can soon be answered as Dodes was a Mate on this class and I was an Engineer.

Hi Bob, yeah well what can one say. Loved the old girl, always thought the MoD made a bad decision building the Sal class, the ducks with a bow thruster powered from the switchboard and a proper deck crane would have been a far better vessel than the oversized and poorly designed Sal's.
