just read that a steering fault with corsas...must not drive till checked,just thought they were all right to drive yesterday...how do you get them to a garage to get them checked.the amount of recalls nowadays make you think why so many...tony

check what year the recall starts at....if yours is affected then simply call you local vauxhall dealer and ask their advice

A few ideas spring immediately to mind.


Safety standards are much higher than they used to be, things that would not be seen as a problem 30 years ago will not pass muster today.
In recent years there have been highly publicised incidents where manufacturers have not recalled cars, where perhaps they should have done, the industry was criticised by the regulators for this, and perhaps manufacturers are erring even more on the side of caution.
With the culture of ambulance chasers, people are more likely to sue manufacturers.
With the internet we hear about issues a lot more than before, add the culture of ambulance chasers and you are much more likely to get a class action law suit, which no manufacturer wants hanging around their neck.

mmmm.....my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer VRX wagon is the subject of a current recall for a warranty [no charge] main driving light combination switch replacement

It is applicable to Lancer, Colt, Grandis, Outlander & Pajero...........all made in Japan

...yes....8 years old ...however Mitsubishi obviously still feel responsible [possibly not morally but legally]...something must have happened  to warrant this action ...[maybe google knows the answer]

We understand that VW America had accepted liability 12 months earlier for the same fault in vehicles destined for sale in USA ...not sure what happened to the CEO of VW Australia after his decision became public knowledge & the resulting plummet of new car sales

Japan's Mitsubishi Motors is recalling some 920,000 vehicles globally to fix faulty light switches that could result in the headlights and blinkers malfunctioning.

The recall covers certain Pajero SUV, Lancer sedan and eK minicar models. It also covers a few models the firm manufactures for fellow Japanese automaker Nissan Motor.

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the glitch, Mitsubishi said on 12 June.

Mitsubishi said it will recall 85,000 vehicles in Australia but in Japan the figure stands at 703,900 vehicles,

Have you noticed the increased number of recalls by car manufactures. Is this due to cutting corners and using cheaper parts that don't work or is it bad quality control when the cars are made

There are two extreme attitudes to Quality Control. There's the aerospace version which says to check everything at every stage and make sure it's not only OK but also documented. Then there's the Chinese approach which is that QC is expensive and that anything which is faulty will be found at someone else's expense; can be replaced at negligible cost; that any supplier of sub-standard parts can also be replaced, and that you can simply slap down any approaches about legal action by playing the "We no-speaky Ingliss" card (or just by not replying). I have opened numerous boxes containing electronic goods from PROC with the "QC" stamp inside the lid where the item inside clearly hadn't been checked - because it didn't work. There's a sailwinch servo on my bench right now awaiting return for just this problem.

Personally I feel happier when a car manufacturer's recall is announced, even if it's for a non-critical fault like an iffy light switch. What to make of a car manufacturer who never recalls anything - are they perfect in all respects or are they hiding/dismissing complaints? Touch wood my particular model of Toyota has had no recalls so far.
