International Model Boat Show - 2014
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:41:09 pm »

Hi Gents.
Some of us are planning to attend this year, can anyone recommend accommodation near by.
This will be our first time and are pretty clueless as to what`s available.
Any help would be most appreciated :-))

Hi Brian
Google map CV31 1XG which is where the Leamington Exhibition Centre is (then search for hotels).
The nearest town is Leamington Spa which has a Travel Lodge and a Premier Inn, plus a couple of B and B's - all within easy drive of the show.
I used to live 20 mins away, but now live 3.5 hrs drive  <:(
Cheers
Danny

You could  stay in Telford plenty of accommodation  , see the International IPMS on the Saturday  and go over to  International boat show on Sunday. if you haven't  visited  the  Telford  show it   is one of the world largest model shows  with plenty  to see  both models and traders.

 From Meridian....

FRIDAY 7th – SUNDAY 9th NOVEMBER 2014
WARWICKSHIRE EXHIBITION CENTRE

The International Model Boat Show is returning to the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre from 7th – 9th November 2014 and visitors are guaranteed a packed hall with well over 600 models on the club and society displays, plus attendance by over 20 leading specialist suppliers.

The venue has been extended since the 2013 event, so there is now the space for each club to display more of their members work and also welcome new clubs and exhibitors this year.

To date nearly 30 clubs and societies are confirmed as attending this unique exhibition with some of the finest marine models on show.

At the show there will be a number of celebrations;

50th Anniversary of the Land Speed Record

The Bluebird Supports Club will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the successful Land Speed Record attempt at 403.1 mph.  50 years ago Donald Campbell broke both the land speed and water speed records in Australia.  Work is continuing on the Conistone Bluebird, and it will be back in the water by 2017 to mark the 50 year anniversary of the sad death of Donald Campbell.    The vessel will eventually reside at Coniston’s Ruskin Museum.

190 years of the RNLI
The Lifeboat Enthusiasts Society will be celebrating this milestone on their stand.  The RNLI has saved more than 140,000 lives since its foundation in 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck. The name was changed to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in 1854, and cork lifejackets were first issued to crew members in the same year.

The 20th century saw the RNLI continue to save lives at sea through two world wars. Lifeboats moved from sail and oar power to petrol and diesel, and the first women joined their crews. Recent years have seen a significant expansion of the service, with the introduction of RNLI lifeguards and the first lifeboat station on an inland waterway, both in 2001.

120th The Manchester Ship Canal officially opened 1st January 1894.
The formal opening of the Canal was conducted by Queen Victoria in May 1894, but before this royal visit an earlier opening had taken place that year on New Years' Day which was just as well celebrated.  There will be a display of the uniforms, plans and a model of the Steam Tug “Kerne.”.

The Surface Warship Association will again lead a poignant sailing tribute at the poolside during the 2 minutes silence on Remembrance Day.  There will also be songs from the 1940 wartime era poolside throughout the day also.  For younger visitors there will be ‘children’s hour’ at the poolside between 1pm and 2pm over the weekend.

Exhibition Manager, Avril Spence said “we are really looking forward to our boat show this year, last year was a very successful event enjoyed by thousands and with the larger venue and more clubs and special celebrations we are planning a really exciting show for our visitors”.

Confirmed trade exhibitors include;
Barry's Model Lettering, Clevedon Steam, Component-Shop.co.uk, Deans Marine, Five Star / Starloc Adhesives, Howes Models, Macs Mouldings, Mantua Model UK Ltd, Marine Modelling International / Traplet Publications Ltd, Mastman, Metcalf Mouldings, Microgyros,  Model Boat Bits, Models By Design, Mount Fleet Models, Prop Shop, S & M Tools, SHG Model Supplies, Speedline Models, Tony Green Steam Models and Vintage Model Boat Company.

As the ONLY 3 day marine modelling exhibition dedicated to all aspects of marine modelling this is an event not to be missed – book your tickets NOW to take advantage of the specially discounted rates which are only available until 31st October (see www.modelboatshow.co.uk).  Social media users can follow all the latest news and updates by following @MeridienneEx (#IMBS) on Twitter or via Meridienne Exhibition’s Facebook page.

Hi Everyone,

Now that full info about the show is on the forum, it's probably a good time to let you all know that once again I will be acting as Pool Master and providing the audio system at pool side. For those who have been to the show over the last couple years will know I introduced a session which has become known as 'Steve's Speciality Slot'. This is when we get the weird, whacky, unusual or just plain stunning items onto the pool. It's a fast change-over session with the emphasis on action to entertain show visitors.
So if you want to be part of the fun, see me at the pool side as soon as possible or add to this thread or PM me.
I look forward to hearing from you all.

Looking forward to the show, sounds like it'll be a good year with a lot more clubs exhibiting this year.
There isn't a bring and buy stall but there are plenty of traders to buy from, I think Howes Models had some complete second hand models for sale last year but there isn't a separate one.

I'm going with the Wicksteed Club for all three days plus the set up day! Booked my leave for almost a year to ensure I wasn't working over the weekend, not going to miss another show like two years ago! <*<

That's a shame Klunk, looking forward to our usual amusement over three days but looks like I'll have to make do with one! We'll have to give Phil his yearly present on Saturday then, I think you'll like his present!

Is Steamboat Phil having a stand again this year please, as we usually meet there at lunch time. I'll bring my usual box of cakes. Also bringing up my 'sold'  boat for collection.

Hi Kenny

From the stand layout I've seen Phil will be opposite the Wicksteed Stand in the first third of the hall, well I'm guessing it's Phil, I should say that Black Heath club will be there! :}

If my right knee op hasn't taken place before the 7th, I'll be there - probably on the Friday. Missed it last year as I wasn't allowed to drive after having the left knee done :((

I've still not been allowed to retire gracefully, so I shall be chained to the CompShop stand - still trotting out the same old b******t and still trying to bring electronics to the masses. There truly is no peace for the wicked.  <:(
