Hi all
I cannot find the right colour for my hull in matt paint, but in gloss if I then go over the gloss in matt varnish will this give me a matt,satin or gloss finish.
Any help appreciated.

Sure if the paints are compatible - usual good rubdown on the gloss to key it all in. Try a test patch!

Probably best to use a polyurethane varnish as they will go on over almost anything. A waterbased varnish might look OK at first but it tends to form a skin on the original finish and can 'bloom' with immersion and stat to peel off with impact damage. As said above, a gentle abrasive rubdown to provide a key for the varnish is a very good idea but don't overdo it.

Dont spoil a model that you have invested a load of time and money in
Read Stavros' guide to painting on here and make sure the paints are
compatible.
Putting the wrong paint on top of a carefully applied coat will be as bad as
painting it with paint stripper.
