Krick Lisa M
« on: October 26, 2014, 06:41:01 pm »

Evening, all!
I've just started the build of my new model - the Krick "Lisa M" - a lovely small cruiser that I've just bought.
First things first - the kit was bought from the German shop Staufenbiel, http://www.modellhobby.de/?shop=k_staufenb_e - because the price was excellent - under £90 and no postage charge. It arrived within 3 days, too!
The only problem I encountered at first was the fact that the instructions are all in German, and the photos on the photocopied sheets aren't very clear. Still, not to worry.
With the help of Google, I've translated everything and produced an English set that I have sent to the shop so they can include it with any future English orders they may get.
If anyone here wants a copy of the instructions, please contact me and I will forward them.
All I've done so far is to study everything carefully and make the boat stand. More to come!

This model calls for an ESC of 20A or more. Anyone got a particular recommendation?

Are you going for a brushed or brushless motor?
if brushed then the mtroniks viper marine is hard to beat

Yeah - the boat comes with motor etc. Not a big one, but I guess it's OK. It's a brushed one, so the ESC you recommend should be fine. Thanks.

Sparkey - can you give me some details about your conversion to brushless? I.e. what motor/battery/ESC/prop-shaft-to-motor connector etc?

Thinking ahead a bit - I'd like eventually to put a couple of figures in it. Anyone know of any suitable 1/25th or 1/24th figures? Most of what I've found are either Naval/Fishermen or LGB-type figures - no good at all.

:-)) Hi,Graham,I used a 1000kv outrunner motor with 30amp ESC  35mm 3 blade prop, battery is a 4200ma 7.2v ,you can use the supplied coupling but will have to make a new engine mount, at the moment I have a 40mm 4 blade prop on gives you a really fast boat, but may go back to 35mm prop to get longer run time, you can get motor and ESC combination on amazon for about £16,any other questions send me a pm,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-))

The deck edge is chamfered slightly, then put into the hull, resting on the ledge. The deck height is marked, then another line drawn 3-4mm above that. That's where the hull will be trimmed down to.

Scary bit!  :o
The hull is trimmed down to the upper line. The deck fits in with 3-4mm of hull protruding above it. Eventually, this will be sanded down to deck level.

I'm saving the excess hull that's been cut off and provided it doesn't interfere with anything else, I'll glue sections of it to the inside of the hull near where the deck goes, to reinforce the hull. It isn't very thick ABS.

The lip on the inside of the hull opening is glued on. The glue I'm using for wood-to-wood is Deluxe Materials' R/C modellers craft glue - very good!

Then the coaming pieces are glued on so that the bottoms of them are flush with the bottom of the lip pieces, and the tops protrude 6mm above the deck. Incidentally, the instructions call these parts 10-13 but in fact they're 10-12. Parts 1 were a good 1/4 inch too long, as well!
In this view the deck is upside down. Note the use of a piece of laminate flooring to give a nice flat, smooth surface to put things on while drying.

While all that's drying, attention can be given to some of the detailing. There's a really nice anchor with the kit - metal, with everything hinging as it should. The radar dome is a two-section plastic part.
There are searchlights and navigation lights in the kit, but I'm going to replace these with working ones.

Excuse me asking this BUT surely the coambing lip should be on the other side of the deck as you have said the last pick of the deck is upside down or am i missing the point

Dave - the coaming extends both below and above the deck - Graham says "and the tops protrude 6mm above the deck" so I think he is fine.
