Sorry to hear that Derek.

The one good thing you have in your favour is that they are a specialised piece of kit. There will be very few places they could be sold and any buyer if they are honest themselves will know they have been knicked and won't touch them!

Heartless  Thief is a tautology. I hope your property is soon found and returned but there is always the possibility it was stolen to order. A pox on all their houses.  <*< <*< <*< <*< <*< <*< <*<

•   No impact on running days……we ran on Saturday & Sunday for private pre-Christmas parties……same next weekend
•   The gates are securely locked….we though the buildings were too…this will  now be upgraded
•   They used two wheel barrows to transport the engines to the roadway through the bushes on Squires Way
•   Each engine has a unique serial number stamped into the boiler for the steam certificate….so they cannot be sold
•   Every time an owner goes to an alternate venue, he must display his valid boiler certificate & S/n witnessed before firing the boiler
•   All model steam clubs in Australia are affiliated …so each club was contacted on Saturday afternoon with picture detail & S/n etc
•   One thought is they were stolen for the copper boiler for scrap $ money
•   Remember a year or so ago morons stole brass plaques from the Crematorium then took them to a scrap metal dealer….who called the police :police:
•   The  :police: today will contact all NSW scrap metal dealers that are on their database register
•   One of the engines took the owner approx 5 years to build

•   Thanks Barb….I knew you tell other steamers………………….

Hi Dad

I was planning to call you about this today. How awful! Did it impact on the running days on the weekend? Do the police have any clues?

That is really awful.
It is really sad to see the state of the remnants that have been recovered.

Why?

What satisfaction can anyone get out of stealing somebody's prize possession, then damaging it to that state and finally dumping it in a lake? Stealing it and selling it...yes, I can see the reason behind that, but to steal it and then leave it like that? Absolutely senseless to me...

That's terrible Derek, I don't know why but after nearly 70 years I'm still shocked at what some people will do, thank god they are a minority I sincerely hope they get their punishment some day.  <*< :police:

That is truly wilful damage.

There was no need to damage them that much just to remove copper tubing! This looks more like strip the copper and then do so much damage to the remains that they cannot be salvaged by anyone- truly spiteful! Looking at them I suppose the club can recover parts like drive wheels etc for use on new models, but that is no consolation.

Maybe it's my age but I despair at some of the human race, if as has been suggested all this was just to get some metal to sell, how much might they get for the bits they took, at the stolen rate not legal scrap sale. Doubt it paid for the fuel they used to carry out the theft. One hopes that your courts are a bit better than ours, if they ever get caught that is, String them up by their b****, might drain some sense into their brains, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for that.

My 'ladyfriend' has just posted this on her Facebook page...the lowlife seems to be getting lower.

''Last week I saw a lady who lives in the flats out the back being taken away by an ambulance. I've just had the police at my door because she was burgled while she was away, and they wondered if I saw or heard anything. How sick is that! I hope they get the b*****d!!!!''

Rich,
think they are down about as far as they can go, wasn't it only a week or so ago there were reports of a house being burgled whilst everybody was at the owner/ex owners funeral.

It's got ridiculous now...if I'd have even thought of doing anything like that when I were a lad, my father would have made sure that sitting down would have been nigh on impossible for a week or two.

The police aren't allowed to issue anything more than a 'stern' warning...whatever happened to the old fashioned village bobby who would issue his own form of punishment? A thick ear from him worked wonders...and another one was waiting for you when you got home.

Bring back the old days...

I am simply speechless >:-o  The senselessness of it is staggering and, like Colin, I am unable to comprehend the mindset of such idiots. It reminds me of when our club's storage container was broken into in 2008. The would be thieves did not find anything of marketable value so they set fire to it, after first pushing our ride-on mower (which they could not start) into the (salt water) lake. Total damage was estimated by the insurance company at A$15,000. However, that pales into insignificance compared to the Wollongong theft, where years of painstaking and loving work were wantonly destroyed for a few dollars worth of copper. At least, thanks to the generosity of some local people and businesses, plus the insurance money, we were able to get going again fairly quickly. The locos, on the other hand, are practically irreplaceable.
