1/24 IHC Delta Multi Craft 1200
« on: September 19, 2017, 12:11:59 pm »

In between plugging away on my Model Slipway Conserver and various other projects, I decided to have a go at scratchbuilding something from the ground up, which is something I've never done before. I did start this a few months ago so I've made some decent progress so far.

So, I decided on building an IHC Delta Multi Craft 1200 to roughly 1/24 scale. It should be fairly simple and straightforward for my first attempt. I used various offcuts and plasticard leftovers to build the bulk of it, and the running gear was kindly given to me by a friend. It's really old but after a clean and degrease it all works perfectly. I did end up swapping the old red props for a pair of new 30mm plastic ones, and the rudders were 3d printed by a workmate to my design, this means the craft can actually sit on it's bottom and the props and rudders can still move freely.

I'm not going to build an exact replica of the DMC1200, I'll be picking and choosing what to add as I go along. This is mainly due to the fact that very few of the real craft are identical as they tend to be built/modified to order depending on the role it is intended for. I've modified the crane from my Conserver so I can swap it between the 2, and I'll be adding a few LEDs to the wheelhouse.

Still not decided on paint job, I may go for the IHC house colors, or maybe a fictional Venetian Lagoon workboat or similar. I will be weathering it up to make it look well used though.
