so I blamed  you guys   

coming home I found some venetian blinds ( wooden )    hmm deck planking I told the wife...... and her answer was of course what the hell you picking up that rubbish for

so I said I am helping the world and recycling   

so would it work, not sure what wood it is but its strips and very thin and bendy with nice grain

so this forum helps the world less to go into landfill

I use these all the time now for my lifeboat hulls and decks. It bends well, both cold and steamed, glues well and with carefull sanding (some can get a little "woolly") finishes well. Only thing I find is that it needs a quick sand before use to remove the coating and allow the glue to penetrate.

Quick point, buy the four foot wide blinds as these are the ones with only two slots (wider blinds have a slot in the centre as well) near the ends thus giving the longest single usable section in the centre.

Much cheaper than lime I used to use as they only cost me a couple of pounds on the car boot sales which is enough to double diagonal plank a 4ft long Watson style lifeboat.

Wooden Blinds are oftem made using wood from the Ramin family. Nice tight straight grain. Get the varnish off first though. Will steam easily and bends fairly well.

  ....Guys...watch out for Chinese blinds as they are often manufactured from laminated bamboo........ ..... Derek
