I've been getting lots of these, Boots, ASDA, John Lewis, Tesco etc. etc.

Obvious scams but I bet they take a lot of people in.

so far this week I have had 2 from the halifax, one from natwest, a message link from linkedin, notification of unread facebook messages, and one from RBS, all scam emails.

Yes, but what is it that makes these emails a scam then?

Is there some 'danger' in opening them?

If you open them and perhaps click on a link then you are opening your PC to people who will then access your private information, maybe clear out your bank account or simply trash your hard disk. All this is potentially possible as opening the emails can give access to a virus or Trojan that can effectively take over your PC.

if you hover the mouse over the links they contain (DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING) you will see the links real address at the bottom of the email window, if it points to anything other than the main website of the company it pretends to be, I will be most surprised see the example attached - the linkedin link, and the actual url linked

I removed my email and partially obscured the link address so nobody tries typing it in, but you can see from the link at the bottom that it is directing you to a site with a french address (the .fr part).

That might be part of a test to sort out the gullible.
I recently had an offer of a rebate from HMRC (!), but a google for "HMRC scam" turned up an address to forward the suspect email to.  Not a lot of hope there, but if the powers get enough information, they might be able to do something useful to stop the scum.

most companies have a mailbox - spam@ then their website address, its always worth a shot anyway.
