Very nice model,

Can you fill me in with where to get plans, jet drives etc?
Does it go as well as it looks?

Hull is scratch from a cad model and cnc milled. True to scale but uses a traditional prop to run. Scale drives would be too small.

I bought a Tamiya Pibber in 1/35th (it's a MkII) and I am going to use this as the basis for my model. (Actually I'm building this one and getting another because its a lovely little kit).
Then its bandsaw time!
I'll cut it along the middle to get the keel shape, then across at eight (?) stations along its length. Scan it all in on a flatbed scanner then trace the scans in Illustrator or Corel to get the keel and bulkheads drawn up.
Zap! on the laser cutter (the best 'fretsaw' on the planet) then it will be a plank on frame job.
At 12th scale it will be 30 inches long so nice size and maybe some jet drives will work OK?
My pal has just finished a 48" long Perkasa and that looks very good so I might make it 1/8th?

Any suggestions for jet drives would be very welcome.

 Hello

If while you are making your hull plans to your scale, can you make me a copy of the plans in 1/18? If so, please PM the price etc.

 Thanks
 George

I think we could manage that George but keep a look out for them, they may be a while yet.

Had a couple requests for plans but I only have the original I started with. I do have the master for the hull and deck too.

Hi.
Those look like an early mk 1.
The mark 2 in my opinion are a better looking boat with twin 50 cal built into a gun tub in the bow and with a cabin.
I scratch built a mark 2 a long time ago at 1.16 scale.
Tried it with twin jet drives but was was too over powered so changed to a single jet drive with a 900 bb turbo on 14.4 volts.
It will stand on its transom even now.
Its a very, very fast boat.
Regards sub.

Yep...Didn't build the MK1 because it was beautiful. I really liked the flat stern for an easier vac-form project. The Vietnam era stuff sure is fun to model.

 Well

I must be lucky, earlier today I got my hands on a 3 page set of plans for a PIBER MK II in 1/12 scale which I am going to get a copy of in 1/18 and go from there.
I plan on using two direct drive motors for the drives with brass props. The motors will be either DC or Brushless, cost is a factor.

Finding Crew and Weapons is HARD, ebay figures are costly wow!

Any other sources would be appreciated.

 George

Hi George.
Dont build at 1/18 scale its too odd ball.
Build at 1/16 then you have a load of weapons and crew options from Verlinden military modelling at 120 mm nearly bang on for 1/16 scale all resin and beautifully detailed.
Be warned though.........each figure is about £30:00.
But is true quality......depends how accurate you want the model to be. See above pic.

Hi sub

Thanks for the tip BUT my ONLY problem is I found the 1/16 figures on ebay, they are more reasonably priced than the 1/18 BUT I can`t find the weapons in either 1/18 OR 1/16.

Can you or anyone else send me a link to a source?

 Thanks again for the help

I was only joining in the conversation on what i mistakenly thought was an open forum...my apologies ....my error ...in being what i thought was only helpful advice for george.

This will now be my last post on any subject....

As i no longer feel welcome on here.

Once again my apologies.

No hostilities sub. Your work in the Vietnam stuff is top tier. Mine is more of a representation using toy level details.

Hi sub driver

Thanks for ALL your tips reg. this subject. Could you tell me where you got ALL your weapons for your boat? I`ve been to ebay and looked under 1/16 weapons.

 George

Still are HARD choice between 1/18 and 1/16. Could the builders of each tell me their boat size for me to think about? I plan on going with dual propeller drives under the hull with either brushed OR brushless motors. Cost determines motor used.

 Thanks Again for ALL advice.

The difference between 1/18 and 1/16 is about 2.5 inches in length for the PBR. Power requirements will be very similar for both.
1:18 is very tight for even the smallest jets.

My boat used :
Integy 35 turn brushed lathe motor
propshop 3 blade at about 30mm.
3000 nimh battery.
Well over scale speed. Keep in mind: My PBR is running a light vac-formed hull.

Hi Adrian,
Have a search on ebay for "NQD Jet Drives" - these might be what you are looking for.
Charlie
Any suggestions for jet drives would be very welcome.

For reference, This is what NQD jet drives look like in my 1/18 hull. A buddy of mine fabricated the reversing buckets but said the drives needed further tuning to get more speed.

Second shot is a set of scale, 3d printed Jacuzzi jet "dummies". NQD's are pretty big in comparison.
