Orange Reciever GR300
« on: November 20, 2014, 12:49:19 pm »

Hi,

Following some advice from triumphjohn  I going to order a orange reciever for my dragonforce yacht.   I have got a spektrum DX5e transmitter and wanted to know if the GR300 would be suitable?   I know they are both DSM2 so they will bind but I am not sure if I will be able to get the throttle to be on  throttle channel for the sheeting and the rudder on the aileron channel (ie the two functions on different sticks as per a 2 channel transmitter).   Or do i need to use a 6 channel reciever?

Cheers

Channels are usually labelled like this:
- CH1/throttle
- CH2/aileron
- CH3/elevator
- CH4/rudder

On a 2ch surface receiver, you only have throttle and aileron (aileron might be labelled "steering" on a 2ch RX).

On a Mode 2 TX, CH1 is left stick up/down, CH2 is right stick right/left.

Hence you won't have any trouble with your DX5 and a GR300. Don't get confused by the airplane terminology: on boats we use the "aileron" channel for the rudder and not the rudder channel.

Thanks for that.  I have read that the GR300 as a "ground" reciever is only suitable for DSM2 ground transmitters, but I can't think why that would be.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to bind this RX to a DX5.

I admit I nowadays only order 6ch RXs (R620) as they only cost an extra $3 and have no problem binding them with my DX7s.

I would be wary of the gr300. It specifies it is a ground receiver, where as your dx5 is probably an aero set.

double check that your Dx5 is definetly aero before buying that receiver as ground receivers are NOT compatable with aero sets. I had this same problem when I never read the full specs of the radio then the receiver.

Thats what I suspected - I think the 6ch aero equivalent is only a few more pennies,

I can say they for sure will not work with the DX6i (tried it myself) also i beleive the first 2 channels on the DX5e will be on the same gimbal

anybody know why there are separate surface and air receivers / transmitters?  Do the surface models have a higher signal strength?

Go with the 6ch R620 and you'll be OK. Aside from micro boats with space constraints (cases can be removed, BTW), there's no point getting a 3ch receiver for $10 when the 6ch can be had for $13 and is know to work.

Unless you're doing FPV or a submarine (RX antenna under waterline), your eyes will give up much sooner than the RX.
