Seamens strike.

Southampton 1966.
3 x Union Castle (SAF Marine) lying idle.
Australis came in and was held.
Does the name "Prescott" come to mind?

I've got a set of slides (somewhere in the loft!) that I took during the seaman's strike at Southampton, one almost identical to Bryan's pic. Southampton was chock full of classic liners including Andes and Caronia etc. Seeing them all rafted up three deep was an amazing sight.

Colin...please sort them out. I was in "Mercury" then, but as we had a Spanish crew we were not subjected to the then political agenda. Remind me, please. BY.

Bryan, my new scanner is supposed to be able to deal with slides although I haven't tried it yet.  I will see what I can do but it may take a week or so!

shipsnostalgia.com provides some interesting views on strikes and J Prescott in particular. A search of the site  on "prescott" throws up (is that the right verb?) some interesting views. Try  http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/showthread.php?t=7917&highlight=Prescott for a starter.

Another one reinventing his past?
