1:6.5(ish) riva aquarama
« on: November 20, 2014, 03:19:01 pm »

Ever since I saw one of these on Jerremy Clarksons mean machines back in the 90s I've been very much taken. After much searching and head scratching I managed to find a company in Vietnam who could build on of these to my specifications.  The aim was to build a boat the acted as close to scale as possible.

Many model Aquaramas you see on you tube are very unstable in turns and seem nose heavy so push up a huge rather unrealistic bow wave. The hull was subtly redesigned with a deeper v and slightly enlarged spray rails to prevent this. Also care was taken to make her as light as possible.

She runs off dual 4665 1800kv brushless motors which provide a top speed of around 40kph.

Now all that left is to find some figures to crew her!

Great Boat Tom - love the Riva's it goes well too. who did you buy it from? You mention about the bow wave - real, full size Rivas used to make that kind of wave pattern, presuming you are talking about the 'sheet' of water that comes off the chine - it was because they didn't have sprayrails.  :-))

Chine, that's what I meant! Some of the ones (models) you see have spray going up twice as high as the boat!

Tantrasway built this one, tuan (the owner) seems very intrested in building boats that run well as well as looking nice. There's a rivarama comming soon that's got me very tempted!

Yes, I have been looking at other models of Riva's - its in the corners where it all goes wrong! Yours runs very nicely, did Tuan build is as a one off or does he make them production?

It was built as a one off but I think some of the hull changes are going into the production ones.
