« on: December 05, 2014, 06:19:02 pm »

Look attentively at it!
It is an exceptional model

It is in French, here is a good opportunity to return to the school.

You have never seen that

You can ask all the questions which you want.

The friend who makes this pontoon will answer you

%%  a pontoon is a floating [usually] box structure......... a floating crane can be a crane on a pontoon  %)

Your friend Patrick is a very brave man O0.....the building of the lifting booms is magnificent....but I wonder about the access to machinery from underneath the glass bottom of the hull  >>:-( ... Derek

 Thanks for the Link Gazou.
That is a great build.
We did not go into such detail with ours, and it is unpowered, and requires the
skill of two tugboat skippers to maneuver the crane into place to take on or drop
off a load. The crane can only lift or lower the load.

  ok2

Patrick is a big designer, it is a very discreet and very effective man.

When he goes to a project this one is very thoughtful.

It has been several years since he studies this project.

The difficulty difficult to solve is the "sliding" of cables in pulleys *

Several members of the forum who are engineers collaborate with Patrick

The rest is solved.

This model reserves you still full of surprises

* If you know very solid and very very flexible fine cables it interests us

I believe that our friend in the USA , Umi, has built something similar. I`m sure she will be interested in the French one by Patrick.   Edit OOPS, I see Umi has been here already, silly me.

I love the metalwork cut from copper sheet. What machine is he using to cut those out, it doesn't look like a lazer but it doens't look like a router either (there is no metal swarf) The edges are very clean and precise.

It has been a long time since I did not give news to you of our friend and his pontoon.
The pontoon belongs to PORSMOUHT at the moment.
Our friend would like to have photos of the deck and all which blocks it, somebody can make these photos? Please

That looks familiar. Currently towering over the continental ferry port here in Portsmouth. No good access for photos though :((

If she is in Portsmouth I wonder why her AIS not showing on Marinetraffic or ShipAIS ?

Doesn't seem to have been using AIS for sometime if these sites are correct.

Maybe...
Just interest as the ex GPS ATLAS @ GPS APOLLO  which is now the Eider 7, look very similar.

I have seen the GPS cranes for many years and was moving a yacht on the day one of them was taken to Norway, when Eider bought them.
In a way their absence from the river, Medway, is indicative of the maritime decline, although all 3 were built in the late 1960s..

Unless GPS are buying a nice new one !!

Well if it helps to identify which vessel it is, the upper flourescent orange looks recently applied, while that a bit lower down is looking a bit sun bleached.
