Plans
« on: December 12, 2014, 07:46:02 pm »

Does anyone have details of plans for HMS Belfast, I am looking to build a scratch model with a length of approximately 60". I am specifically looking to build a fully working model, including smoke unit, revolving gun turrets, lighting etc however the plans themselves for the general build are the most important part. I am not looking for one with a pre-cast hull as I prefer to build from scratch sad as that may appear.

These days the cost of plans from the NMM are quite reasonable .

All,

Many thanks for the suggestions however I cannot seem to find some actual plans I can either buy or download that gives me a clear idea of the overall architecture of the ship

Try Taubman Plans who apparently still stock the Sambrook Marine plans of the ship as in 1944.

Do get Ross Watton's book as Belfast was extensively modified after completion following her mining and then again in the 1950s when she took on her appearance today.

Personally I don't think that Belfast was a particularly attractive looking ship compared with the original Southampton class from which she was derived.

She is still a wonderful ship to visit though, being one of the very few surviving RN warships of WW2.

Actually Sheffield was not a sister ship, Belfast shared elements of the Sheffield design but was a very different ship both visually and constructionally.
