Whats the best way to finish plywood so that the edge plys and the face grain cannot be seen? I'm wanting it smooth so that I can finish it to look like steel plate.

Sanding sealer, dope and tissue, epoxy finishing resin. All require more than one coat and usually some sanding. Getting rid of end grain is, in my experience, the most difficult and I've resorted to a thin layer of filler in the past.
