Recommend an airbrush set up?
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:25:16 pm »

Hi all,

I am about to venture into the world of airbrushing properly, so I wondered what you would recommend to me as a decent but budget cautious set up? It must be able to handle 2-pack paint also... If that is relevant.

Thanks in advance for any advice folks.

You can easily spend 2-300 quid on a compressor and 150 quid on an airbrush but I would recommend one of the Chinese air compressors from ebay, search 'as186'. These are cheap compressors with a tank (which is important). Some of these compressors come with airbrushes which are good for one thing only - the bin (or maybe cake decoration).

I started with an Iwata Neo CN, japanese designed, but Chinese made. These are about 40 quid and well worth the money. I have a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution now, but I still use the Iwata.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a pretty large model (16' approx) to refurb, hence the need for a proper set up this time around!

16 foot?  :o

I'd go for a spray gun for the larger surface areas, you can use something like the 'citadel spray gun' which is cheap for starters. The airbrush I suggested is a double action airbrush for finer work.

Hang on a mo Right top tip here......go along to Machine Mart and buy yourself a 50 ltr 12cfm compressor and whilst you are there buy a cheap gravity fed spray gun ....if it's the boat I think it is that has had a new home up at yours then you are going to NEED IT.An airbrush wont hold enough Paint for your needs

Thanks Stav (and everyone else) it certainly is the boat your thinking of, a certain Type 45?

Only needs a few touch ups here and there, not a full re spray.

I've only ever used tiny guns for small parts before now.
