Waterline

Came across this laser (
http://www.focalprice.com/LP366S/3_5V_5mw_650nm_500_1000m_Red_Straight_line_Laser_Head_Silver.html
) and thought it might make waterline resolution easier.
So for a few pounds I ordered one. An old 3v battery, a couple of solder connections
and strapped it on to my scribing block instead of the normal soft pencil ......... and Hey
presto!
As long as you have two (extreme) points then inclination is not a problem, near horizontal/vertical - you just rotate the lens and align the laser to suit.
Not the best of pictures but it does demonstrate the principle.

When I had to mark the waterline on my Odin I thought about one of those laser levels but they aren't cheap in home improvement stores.
But at $4.50 I'm definitely getting one.
Thanks for the link !

with a bit of fiddling about also handy to get a centre line along the inside of your hull.

Chaps, do please be very careful when using these - a 5mW laser is quite capable of blinding you if shone into the eye and I'd hate to think of that happening to anyone here.
