Sail winch servos
« on: July 19, 2007, 03:29:52 pm »

One of my scale sail ships incorporates as do many others, a Futaba Sail winch to operate the main sail.

For some unfathomable reason this one keeps jamming the cord. The simple answer I know would be to fit a sail arm servo instead, but this particular boat a Morecambe Bay Prawner does not easily have the space.

Can anyone offer any solutions to help keep the sail lines in place ?

Hello,
Have a look at "Scale Sail" on this Forum, details there of a box to fit around the winch drum, to prevent any tangles .
John, ;)  ;)  ;)

To expand a little further (I was trying to get a picture to upload).

The Hitec winch is mounted in an aluminium T shaped frame, where the line passes along the frame and through a U bend tube at the top and back along again. The U bend top of the frame being sprung to retain the tension along the frame.

Jaydee - do you have a link, I did a search and could not find what you were referring to

cheers

Hi BlueWotsit,

As you may have spotted by my thread “Help with Morecambe Bay Prawner Build” I am attempting to build one of these as my first project.

Do you have any advice to give me about any problem areas that you had with your build, and do you have any photos that might help to encourage me to get on with the build. I am at the stage of fitting the rudder and working out how to arrange the rudder servo, sail winch, etc, inside the hull. Any photos of the arrangement you used would be of great interest to me.

I am also trying to work out the best way to either unstep the mast or maybe even to make the top part of the mast removable to reduce the overall height of the model such that it will fit on the back seat of my car. Do you have any suggestions about this?

Thanks in advance,

BJH.
