Specialised ships off the East Coast
« on: July 23, 2007, 09:12:03 am »

Anyone been to Skegness recently ? If so have you looked out to sea and 3 miles offshore are two very interesting ships.
One is a ship carrying all the equipment for driving the piles  for the wind farm into the sea bed  this one has hydraulic legs that go down to the sea bed and lift the ship several meters above the water before commencing piling. This ship makes journeys back to Holland quite frequently to collect more piles.
The other ship is a cable laying vessel which operates between the windmills and the shore with a large drum carrying the cable.
Both these ships can be seen quite clearly from the shore on a reasonably clear day.
Would be very interested if anyone else has seen thes ships and would just love to see some close up photographs if anyone has any

Have managed to find some photographs of the ship doing the piling showing the telescopic l;legs and piling rigs on the website www.offshorewindfarms.co.uk although a bit small gives a good impression, would like to see some close ups if possible

Hi all,

Can't be sure, but I think it has moored in Bridlington harbour a couple of times.

If it returns again, I'll get some photo's.

Bob

We got a visit from a very large Southampton hover craft last week, I new it was stopping for fuel and water, but was Lucky enough to be standing at the top of the ramp on South Shore beach when it came ashore.

With reference to the two ships mentioned  I have over the last week done some more research on this and have come up with a website www.ship-technology.com this shows the wind farm installation vessel RESOLUTION along with all the technical spec.
Also Centrica web site has details of this also but you musk click on the Inner Dowsing link
I would love to receive some plans etc so i could build a very interesting model
