Very true Captain! The chances are you will be knocked unconscious so when you are walloped overboard you drown very, very quickly. The cause of many deaths of singlehanders!  :((

Not forgetting the dreaded Chinese Gybe (other spelling) as seen here. Watch the idiot in the blue and white top leaning against a full mainsail running downwind and the skinny female trying to put her weight against it!! A poorly inefficient crew here and there could have been a fatality or two.

As a fully paid up and qualified dry footed Landlubber, would I be right in guessing that there were quite a few things done incorrectly in this video? Surely it's not usual to remain sitting alongside the rail that will be on the leeward side when the boat turns?

Hi,

I hope that it is water they are drinking? That skipper needs to have a wake up call and organize his crew.

A total load of ********ers.
Helmsman should have turned downwind, i.e. toward the spinny, could have had a preventer on the boom to 'prevent' that happening, although that can lead to other problems in that sort of wind, and the crew don't seem to have a clue (clew?  :D ).
Only person to do something sensible was the girl who kept pointing to the person in the water. Although even she took her eyes off the casualty.
I expect the guy who threw the lifebouy with line attached was expecting the casualty to waterski.

Oh yeah, and no lifejackets or harnesses.
Although, with a rubbish crew like that, once it started rolling it was the end.

Hello,

Is there no "Driving test" or similar for full sized yachting??.
Or is it just a case of --turn up and go, If, there had been a fatality, who would have been blamed ?.
With the whole event on video, somebody would !!.

There are plenty of qualifications to be had - from the RYA for example - but you don't have to take them, any more than you do for kayaking or riding a bike.
Or going out in a boat fishing, etc.
But I can't imagine a skipper of a boat like that being a complete novice.
It's obviously a racing class of some description, and it looks to be in some hot country, hence the casual dress style.
To be fair, it's not easy to control a boat of that sort in those conditions.
If it was me..... I wouldn't have a boat like that, and I wouldn't have a spinny up, and the crew would all have lifejackets or harnesses, and would certainly not be scattered all over the deck like a bunch of layabouts.

Maybe that's why I sail a Drascome Lugger single handed  %)

Here's how to do it...

The boat's sail letters indicate it's Hong Kong

Not yet John :o

Little time available lately.
I'm carer for my wife (cancer), and I'm in hospital next week for a quick op (eyes), but after that it should be 'plain sailing'. Ha, ha.

Take care.
