Help with newbuild
« on: January 07, 2015, 01:12:25 pm »

Hi,

Over the coming months I will, if I may, be asking questions about the electrics for a newbuild ship.

My first question to start is that I need to rig a system so that the two main guns will turn without using a servo.

I have the guns mounted and a length of wire to connect them together.

Regards

A servo is any device which connects to the receiver and turns an electrical signal into mechanical movement. If you want to operate the guns via the radio but you don't want to use one of these then it's difficult to suggest anything else. Can you explain a little further why a servo cannot be used?

Hi,

I should have been clearer.

I don't want them on the radio as I only have four channels.

The channels will be used for steering, throttle control, bow thruster and sounds.

Rotating them implies a motor and gearbox.  If they are not to be in constant motion, the motor will need to be controlled.  Without going to an extra channel, you could connect a servo into an existing one and fit it with microswitches.
Another possibility is to connect them mechanically to the steering.

Hi,

My electronic skills are non existent so I will connect them mechanically to the steering.

Just a slight redesign to the above deck cabins...sorted.

Thank you
