Here is the long version of the video posted by Kees Torn on board the Elbe.
And of all the tugs that went out to meet the Pieter Schelte as she arrived and headed
toward the specially prepared berth in the Massvlakte 2 complex.

There are a lot of contenders for worlds largest ship at the moment.

I do have to ask though, is this a ship? Or considering what it looks like and the amount of lifting equipment fitted would it better be described as a 'Self Propelled Crane Barge' ?

mmmmm  ;) Brian56.........you ask a very complex question.... "I do have to ask though, is this a ship?"

However from our humble perspective I offer the following from GOOGLE................... Derek  %)

Derek I just love that distinction- 'if one can be carried on another, then it is a boat'  :} So a ship being carried on something like the semi submersible Deepwater III, then becomes a boat, yet it remains a ship because it is carrying boats of its own???? :-X :-X :-X :-X the mind boggles  %%

Because this ship /boat/ crane barge is a new concept maby we should think of a new name for it . On A Alseas web site ther was a mock up of what it was made for ,the machine,I'll call it that until it's decided what it is  motors up to a oil platform the rig superstructure fits between the hulls the rig is top is removed and secured and then taken to a place the be broken for scrap .  There are rigs in the North Sea ready for scraping . Alegidly this will be safer and cheaper .

Last year I was engaged to investigate & report on a number of hydraulic warranty issues on a recently built floating/powered marine structure "Brave Turn"

It is termed as a Vessel or Platform, and although even less than 10,000 tonnes displacement certainly qualifies as a Ship  O0

Still waiting on my air tickets to Bremerhaven or the Hague...... >>:-( ... Derek
