Scale, size, weight?
Props (diameter, type, pitch?)

Btw, independent control is a must with brushless motors.

Okay that makes it easier  :}

So 1.33 m long and probably weight´s something around 15kg.
If we guess that you will use 55mm Raboesch brass props you should choose a motor which turns around 4000-4500 rpm under load.
Since it´s brushless you´ll need 5000 rpm without load or 416kv.

UK warehouse  shows these:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18169
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=19616
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=19028

I´d use the first one with each a Roxxy 960 ESC.
Motor is big enough not to die over thermal problems and no too expensive.

Good advice above, I use 2 x G46's with a similar size tug, plenty of power. (3rd link above) but any of those 3 are about the right power for what you need.

They don't really need too much in the way of cooling either as long as there is some space in the hull for air to move about. If not then a simple water cooling jacket could be used but not absolutely necessary unless you are doing sustained long runs in towing competitions etc.

The Hobby king ESC's are fine too if you want to save a bit of cash on those.

Yes that is a pity you can't run IC boats where we want to. By the way the engine is 4 stroke so is Oil free ( it has an oil sump so none added to the fuel )and very little noise to upset anyone. I have run my Arun at Mayhem weekends and the biggest moan i get is about the wash of the boat even at very low speeds. Still my 1/16th Tamar make a wash that upsets some  {:-{  i think it is just lifeboats!

I can't remember its numbers but its modern number is GX22 . 22 cc However I had to have made for me a gearbox to drive the two props around counter rotation. The box was just about £100 worth of parts to make it.
The engine cost around £50.00 on ebay as a none runner. I soon had it purring over with a few broken parts replaced. I have to say Ive got some work to do to improve the exhaust manifold when it warms up and I can work on it outside.
Best stick with the brushless set up as i did with my Tamar.

yes my Tamar is a Model slipways 1/16th scale
I use two 11.1 volt 5000mah Lipos on for each motor. the motors are turnigy 1250 kv  3542 motors. Hobbyking 50amp water cooled ESC (however i don't use the cooling as they have never got hot so far)
This powers up the boat well over scale speed so i never open the throttle to much.

Hi Maggie m,
I have an Arun lifeboat, it has 2 x 4blade 75mm propshop props, 6 mm shafts, 2 x 50amp tuborix brushless ESC's, 2 x Emax BL 4030 850kv.
Runs on 12v for shows and 24v if I really want shift and it's fast.

The motors in my recommendation will also run with 65mm props.
The 55mm was just a rough guess without knowing the actual diameter.
