position of sternlight on yacht
« on: July 22, 2007, 06:36:12 pm »

having found out where i can put the nav lights on a yacht, in this case on the cabin roof with a cluster located up top, this begs the question about the stern light. as there is the back stay on the mast coming down to the transom of the boat, I am thinking can the stern light be located off to one side?

Somewhere on the transom or on the pushpit rail will do. It doesn't matter if it's a bit off centre. On full size boats it's the beam angle which is important.

cheers. now to get some LED's and some tube, the transome is going to be drilled out and the tube go through it. treated like a prop shaft it shouldnt leak.  light going in the top of it.  may also add some orange lights in the well to light up foot deck area.

Hi Ghost
The black object is the stern nav light.

judging by that i could simply drill out the deck area on the main hull rather than the main transom, means that when i install the light only the top deck needs to be drilled out

wiring that will be impossible, it is held in by a screw and is part of the locking mechanism for the hatch
