Capsize- will it won't it?
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:23:24 pm »

Sometimes you see a vessel and you just have to ask how on earth it stays the right way up. This is one of them. How on earth can it look so top heavy and yet not go over?

When I see any large ship (excl. bulk carriers) 'out of the water', in a drawing or model form, I always think they'll just roll over once afloat. It's like double-deck buses - the visual c.o.g. is absolutely nowhere near the actual c.o.g.

The Mailline Vaargrouep built one of these crane ships for their club.

Maybe its like a tree what you see above ground the tree has underground with its roots. Be one hell of a keel though.

Although the towers look very bulky, I suspect they are made of quite thin steel, and a great deal lighter than they look.
