Mick, There has been another blackout on the forum today and yesterday's posts have been lost again! No posts were removed, they just sort of got lost in cyberspace!

Colin

Aha, That explains why there are "notifications" of postings but the posting is not there.

I too thought some had been removed.

Thanks Colin I was getting paranoid, that was twice in a week, Mick B. Jay to answer your question ,most of 65 & a bit of 1966. I was with the RAF at Khormaksar, at that time it was an active service posting, with nearly 500 of our lads killed & buried in Little Aden, what for you may well ask, it still goes on. Mick B.

Apart from the obvious fact this question was staged as an excuse for a pre-prepared rant of bigoted abuse, I hope no one will suggest the English are in any way prejudiced, as evidenced by this Flanders & Swann song ...

Yes, it is OK to protest over Charlie Hebdo cartoons guaranteed to deeply offend millions, but not to say anything about anyone of different cultures, religions, or sexual orientation, without been jumped upon.

I don't think that newcomers to this country should be deracinated, but this is the result of multiculturalism:

On  the day before  we left I had to go in to steamer point to pick up one of our guys   who  was in transit from the ARAB jail   and finishing at Colchester. Lost alot of weight while he was in there as only got about 3  of our type meals a week.On the way to Steamer point passed the High Commissioner on the way to the  Air port on our way back passed the Ambulances carrying him  due a bomb at the airport .  Small world init oh and 69 I was In Calgary    and Camp Wainwright

Aden 63/4 HMS Eskimo 9 th Frigate Squadron based in Bahrein.
Many runs ashore in Aden  remember the swimming pool at Steamer Point.
Back in 67 to cover withdrawal on Eagle with Buccaneers from 800 sqd on
Point duty. Managed a quick peek at Crater.

After or antipodean members raised the question of how politically correct you have to be in the Uk nowadays. I saw this photo this morning and just had to post it to this topic....

We asked as a population to celebrate st Georges day and it was turned down as not conducive to the integration of other cultures! Yet the hindu's, muslims, jews and all other races celebrate their particular holidays.

Surely this is because the extreme right and neo-Nazis have high-jacked the St George`s cross flag. The cartoon does remind those in the south and other parts of the UK that to be British is not the same as being English.

Hi,
Leaving aside all the politics, the panellist does not attempt to answer what is quite a philosophical question, ie. can you defeat an ideology with weapons? It would have been nice if, after her speech, the host had said something like "Now would you like to answer the question? Shall I repeat it for you?"

ps. I wouldn't like to answer the question - it's too philosophical for me, but it does put me in mind of Dooley's response to the judge in "Dooley is a traitor" by James Michie.

'Mr Dooley, won't you help to destroy evil ideas?'
'Ah, your Honour, here's
the tragedy,' I said. 'I'm not a man of the mind.
I couldn't find it in my heart to be unkind
To an idea. I wouldn't know one if I saw one. I haven't one of my own.
So I'd best be leaving other people's alone.'
