It's not that complicated.

It is a theory, and statement of fact made by one
Clifford Shaw of Edmonds, Washington USA. An old
codger by any sense of definition, but also a good
friend and mentor. His modeling skills, electronic ability, and
general common sense were always outspoken for
 the benefit of others.

On one particular day I was visiting Cliff to get some
transmitter modifications straightened out. After a bit
of general banter we proceeded to dig into the transmitter
and disassemble a bit here and a bit there. Drill a few holes
and wire in some new switches. As we got around to
reassembling the all the bits, one of the key pieces turned up
missing... We looked all over the work bench, and then the floor.
However the bit was nowhere to be found.

Being the common sensed person he was, Cliff declared that
the "bit"was probably time traveling... And that this was a good
point to take a break and have lunch. During lunch, I expressed
my dismay regarding the missing bit of my transmitter. Cliff looked over
his plate, and reached for his drink to wash down a bit of sandwich.
He said, "It will be there when we go back." I must have looked a bit
puzzled, because Cliff smiled. This happens all the time. Especially with
small bits on the work bench. Car keys, the wallet... You put something
down and suddenly can't find it... It's Time Travel....
 How's that? I asked...
Cliff continued, small things travel in time. You may have just had something
in your hand, set it down, and poof, it's gone. You look, and look, you expand
your search, and still can't find what you've lost. That's because it's traveling in time.
You can't find it, because it's not here anymore. The best thing to do is take a
deep breath relax and do something else till it decides to return, because it always
certain that you will find what you've lost, in the future...

And after lunch, we went back to the work bench, did a quick look round, and there
was the "bit", sitting plain as day... "Time Travel... ", I muttered...

 ok2

Exactly.

Also, I'm fairly certain my 1.5mm allen key will have plenty of stories to tell of the Triassic era when it decides to come back to the year 2015.

I'm pretty certain we should employ the young lady we used to employ as a DQAFF inspector on the Tornado fleet to find all our lost items.
She seemed to find all sorts of lost items or FOD in the cockpits- even after we vacuumed them out for hours, blew jets of air into them, and use remote viewing aids (torches to you and I). We would often ask where she found the bits and she would point them out and we would very much often say that we had looked there! We never did know if there was indeed something there or she had a pocket full of bits to show us!!! %%

The worst thing I lost was a laser 1 (sailing dingy)

Whist at a regatta I was racing against around 100 other competitors. After the racing was finished we descended apon the club house and bar. 5 hours and several ales later I needed to find my boat which had my phone (for the taxi) and house keys still inside one of the lockers.

Now during the day it can be quite hard to locate you're own boat amongst everyone else's, the boats being all the same type, colour ect; in the dark after a few choice ales it is nigh on impossible.

Needless to say I gave up and rolled my self up in a sail and slept under the stars.
There were a few bemused looks the next morning when all turned up for the next day's racing! :embarrassed:

Time travel may work for some ,but I think that there is temporal distortion around my house. Things will reappear in a different room then if left somewhere safe disappear again to reappear in the shed a couple of years later. Also when you have bought a new  wotsit the thing you know you had turns up next to it on the bench.

I always make a point to check in the refrigerator.
Usually whatever I am looking for has no business being there, so
I figure it is good to check just to make sure. If I am lucky I'll find a
pint or two, and if that's the case, usually it won't matter whether I
find what got lost.  :}

We are still trying to figure out exactly how a scalpel blade got into the washing machine, bearing in mind its ages since I last changed a blade and the old blades get wrapped in the paper from the new blade and put into the wifes sharps bin. yet it still got there and blocked the drain pump.

Good thinking.  I will put that on my list of places to look.  Should be fine as long as 1 - I don't lose the list 2 - When I get to the kitchen, I remember what I went there for.

Generally I find most things in one of three places:
1: bedside table..... Everything that comes out of my pockets ends up there... Goodness only knows what the cleaner thinks I do in bed {-) %%

2: dog bed. Very useful animal for retreaving stuff..... Especialy if it's been put in 'a safe place'

3:Hoover: if in doubt get the dyson out, sheet of brown paper and tip. Within 5 mins that deck light that pinged accross the room 5 years ago will be in your hand! I love the Hoover!

Guys.......I do not suffer from any of the issues that others are talking about here  ;)..

However last week I lost my favourite mug that use daily for my morning cup of coffee

I find it not appropriate to use my tea mug, as this is of larger volume than the preferred coffee mug

Anyway......my coffee mug is white porcelain with an ANL flag emblazoned upon .......but I cannot find it, >>:-(

My tea mug is white porcelain with a BHP flag emblazoned upon ...I did loose it for a few days....but recently found it in the fridge

At this stage I have not established  :police: who or whom put my tea mug in the fridge .... <*< nor the person responsible for the disappearance of my coffee mug

Following is an image of my tea mug with the BHP flag.........my coffee mug is similar but as you know has a different flag emblazoned upon  %) .... Derek

PS...the missing ANL coffee mug must not be confused with my 82 year old smaller Broken Hill Proprietary Ltd [maritime] coffee cup.......

Gent if you loose something on the floor  get out the dyson or hoover plug in the hose and put a old pair of the good ladystights or if lucky her stocking over the end turn on and suck it up tights will stop it being lost for ever.

Many years ago, wife number 2 and I went shopping for the weekly grocery shop. We completed the task, came home, and she started to put the shopping away whilst I made a brew.

A while later, Mother Nature was telling me that I needed to 'go'...having 'been', I reached for the toilet paper, but only found a few sheets on the roll. I managed ok, and went downstairs to fetch the new pack of toilet rolls that I knew we had bought...not a roll in sight. We turned the kitchen and the dining room upside down...nothing. We expanded the search into the lounge...then the bedrooms...nothing. Checked the car...nothing.

Couple of days later, wife number 2 was ferreting in our big chest freezer for something for dinner (you know what's coming, don't you?)...there inbetween the frozen meats and other foodstuff was a packet of six toilet rolls....

When working on very tiny parts a proportion will attempt to reach the floor, then bounce and roll incredible distances. They have an innate instinct to be attracted towards the most inaccessible corners with the homing instinct of an escaped Gerbil.  After eventually finding it (or not) you return to find the tool you were working with has inexplicably vanished.

Speaking of small parts bouncing and hiding,...
I entered into ship modeling through a not so local combat warship club.
Between battles the ships would need their hulls patched and the skippers would also
take the time to rebuild or repair something that wasn't performing in the previous sortie.

One of the guys took advantage of the 'tween sortie break to tear down his motors.
I don't recall the reasoning for the tear down, but there was a slight panic at the bench when
one of his brush springs bounced off the table and into the pasture grass. People were combing the
lawn and it wasn't to be found. Someone brought over a large magnetic base bowl and
swept the area surrounding the bench and came up with nothing. After everyone had a go at
finding the spring, I asked the skipper, "Can I assume that you can't run the boat with out that spring?"
He confirmed that, and I then asked, "So if you lose the other spring that won't matter either?"
The skipper said one spring or none, the motor can't be used if he didn't have both springs.
I asked where the first spring bounced, and he pointed to the corner of the table.
I took the second spring and told the blokes there, "Everyone keep your eye on this second spring."

I picked up the second spring, bounced it off the corner of the table and said, "Go find your brother!".
Every one watched the spring bounce, and then drop off the table and into the lawn. "Check there", I said.
The bloke with the magnetic bowl swept the spot of the second spring landing and lo and behold when
he turned over the magnet both springs were stuck to the bottom of his bowl.

When there is nothing to lose.... just saying.  O0

Ned no  you put it over the end of the hose/tube  to act as a filter its amazing the amount of bits you find sucked on to the mesh ready for you to collect after you switch off the dyson /hoover. but then you being in Grimsby not sure if hooves have got to you yet. {-) . see you soon then the weather warms up a bit
