Final pictures for today more on Vampire later. The sailing ships Endeavour and James Craig  were due to take place in an event in Tasmania but they had to return to Sydney due to bad weather.

Great shots Stan. I always go to the Maritime Museum whenever I visit Sydney, it's a wonderful place to visit, in a great part of Sydney.

I was also talking to Stan about his 'not receiving'  notifications.

I have put a notification reminder on here  (to me) to see if the system fails on this thread.    %)

Great snaps from the Maritime Museum Stan........tiz a pity we could not have turned out brilliant blue sky for you

Did that OZ brewed Heineken taste better than the European original?........ Derek

"Aussie brewers also are recognised overseas because their beers come up with equal scores as the original brews when Continental European companies do their blind tastings, he said.

"It's a real feather in our cap.''

The beers that rated best in the Choice tastings were Grolsch (6-1 in favour of the locally brewed version), Kronenbourg (6-0 with one judge unable to decide), Carlsberg (5-2) and Heineken (5-2). Stella Artios and Peroni imports were both voted better than their locally made counterparts"

Great photos of Voyager Stan - last time I saw her we were working together off Malaysia in
the Indonesian Confrontation when I was on HMS Aisne. She looks really smart for her age

The photos are of HMAS Vampire, a Daring class destroyer, and sister ship of HMAS Voyager, which was sunk in a collision with the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne. The accident happened on 10th February 1964, and 82 of Voyager's crew lost their lives. There were three ships in the class for the Royal Australian Navy, the other one being HMAS Vendetta.

Sorry Peter that was a case of fingers not connected to the brain - yes I remember when Voyager was in collision
with Melbourne.  My entry should have read Vampire

Hi Guys just a few shots taken from one of the towers on the Sydney side of the bridge. Cruise ship is moored in the central quay area. One shot of the bridge climb up the right side down the left.

Looks like maintenance platforms that can be lowered and traversed
as needed for painting and such.

Am I right Stan?

Spot on it is used for work on the bridge It can be lowered to I think right down to road level. Also it is used for fitting the fireworks on the bridge for new year and other events.

Marvellous photos, Stan :-))

I don't wish to hijack your thread, but I thought you may be interested in some photos I took way back in 1963, when the Opera House was being built. Sydney has changed greatly in the last 50 years, but I suppose that's true of just about anywhere. I took the photos from the top of the south eastern bridge pylon, long before the days of the Bridge Walk. The pylon was open to the public for viewing, but that stopped many years ago, probably due to Health and Safety concerns {:-{ Sydney Harbour is no longer a "working" harbour, as most cargo vessels now berth at Port Botany where the container terminals are located, but scores of cruise liners visit each year, no doubt bring plenty of tourist dollars with them :-)

I've really enjoyed your shots of my old home town, and I hope you find my photos interesting.
