Ghost ship resurrection
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:14:56 am »

This is a program showing on National Geographic channel this week.

For sailing ship afficionado's this is well worth the watch, its about a 17th century ship found in the waters of the Baltic and how its identified, with plenty of shots of the Batavia and the Wasa. Even a shipyard recreating a dutch ship from the keel upward.

Hi brian   I will certainly look out for that this week thanks for the tip.

Has anybody seen the one about submarines sinking in the Baltic? there are some fantastic shots of a U Boat standing at  nearly 45 degrees  on the bottom buried almost up to the conning tower, they reckon that when it impacted with the bottom the clay turned very wet and she went straight in, it is worth looking out for.   it was made by a Finish company and there is some film of it on You tube here

The Baltic according to the program (it was on today for the first showing) preserves wrecks, apparently it has a high concentration of fresh water combined with very low temperature stops decay. The swedes were actually looking for a downed cold war spy plane when they came across the shipwreck in the program.
