I like big boats and I cannot lie..... (Robbe Atlantis)
« on: February 25, 2015, 11:33:05 am »

Hi folks, this is my introduction to scale sailing. My Dad promised to build me a schooner when I was younger and due to real life it's only been finished in the last few years, but it's really his boat. I fancied something I could really call my own (and was a bit more car friendly, the other schooner doesn't have folding masts).

I got this from a fella on eBay at a price I couldn't resist (and he could post it!)

I hope to do some work to tidy it, there may be a refit in the near future but at the moment I just want to get sailing! She's sail only and was built without the optional motor.

Some pictures:

HI Tom

That is a superb model, just as good to look at as it is to sail. When you do the re-fit would sugest fitting the auxilliary motor, sods law, the wind drops just as she gets to the middle of the lake!!!!!!

Saying that, she looks so good in the photos, very little needs doing.

Regards

Well Tom, what can I say. I have one of these, but when it goes on the lake I rarely get to sail it! everyone else wants too.Take your time setting her up lakeside and you will not be disappointed. They sail beautifully and look graceful, but beware, she can get up to quite a speed in the right winds. have a look at my Atlantis on the photo of the month, sailed by Chuffy on this occassion!

Cheers folks! Jarvo, if you ever come up to bury I'll probably be there, currently she's living with my parents as the I've run out of space in my hobby room. Hopefully I'll have her sailing at Ellesmere Port.

Klunk that's a fantastic picture! Although your poor crew must be suffering! I can't see any way to reef that sails, am I correct or have I missed something?

thats correct. if you want to stop her you let all the sails out, she will pop up with speed and answers the helm quickly. just give her plenty of room while practicing. ill dig out another pic for you later of her at Mayhem a few years ago in a very high wind

I LOVE big boats too Tom and have often admired the Atlantis. They are beautiful and nearly as good as a Moonbeam - like mine!  O0

Look forward to some photos nemo! Can I be really cheeky and ask what you paid? I've persuaded my dad with mine that big schooners are better and he's wants one now!

Tom, if you go to the Sales section on here and scroll down you will find it. I did a deal with the seller, so it would not be proper to mention the price on here. However, if you want quality, and you don't want to build one, you have to dig deep! I am having a rest from building now as I am getting on, so will have more time to sail this beauty. My Moonbeam is nice too if anyone (Dad?haha) is interested - it is now on a major online auction site.
My photo(s) of the Atlantis will follow as soon as I get my hands on it.
Rob.

Here she is 'VANADIS' at Sumners Ponds West Sussex Show last weekend. Last pic at my local lake.
A lady visitor described her as 'Scrumptious!'  {-)

Lovely model, Jerry, as are the other yachts pictured.

It's the sailing pool that is intriguing me ! It looks like the jerry built swimming pools we used to construct on the aft deck, but on the quayside in some port that looks vaguely familiar. Any clues ?  O0

I don't know that any of the pool's builders were German, maybe a little, but it was definitely jury rigged - and too shallow for old Stella - so I'm thinking Dutch.

The photo was taken on pier 13 in Baltimore Maryland USA, where the NS Savannah is currently docked.  It was Baltimore's Port Festival for National Maritime Day.  The facilities in the background are in the Seagirt Terminal and further away Dundalk Marine Terminal.

It's a little event, but the director of the real Constellation invited me to bring her and posted in the event flyer she would be there - so I was a little obligated.  ;)

Are you suffering from Constellation?
« Reply #19 on: June 24, 2015, 09:39:20 pm »

Recognized it right away, it's unmistakably Constipation.

Constipation or Consternation?

Hi Jerry, thanks for the reply - turns out I was all to hell on all points ! Never been to Baltimore, nor a German carpenter to be seen anywhere  ;)
Still a very nice model tho'  :-))
