Hello to all merchant and ex merchant seamen
Please can you help me , I was reading a article in Sea Breezes ,a junior engineer trip out of Sydney to various ports .

The sentence was , "we started on the tie rod as soon as we FWE's."

What is FWE's please. This has come up in many articles and I can not come up with the answer .

Abbreviations were used when filling in the Movement Book and copying into the Log Book later, the important steps in the arrival/departure maneuverings. Hence you start with approx  hour prior to sailing entering ABGT&FC which translates All Bridge Gear Tested and Found Correct, followed after the hour with SBE/BC - Stand By Engines and if that ship has var pitched props BC=Bridge Control. After that various actions are noted until ultimately the Pilot departs and the last entry made FAOP = Full Away On Passage
On arrival the entries start with EOP= End of Passage and follows through to the FWE already explained.
I didn't realise that explaining the above took almost as long as doing it for real !
