The last picture showed the replacement screw to hold the tiller in place, still have to test it again.

The latest two pictures are of a bit of detailing, the ropes at the base of the masts around the stocks (need to read the book to show the correct names), the last picture shows a length running from one of the forward stocks, this is for crew to be 'hauling sail', hopefully this will turn out ok.

Apparently they are Bitts

Spot on  :-))   Bitts are usually two parallel stocks and the rail at the base of a mast I think is called the fife rail.  So much detail on such a tiny model.  Great job!

So as not to forget the part and then struggle to fit it, I fitted the crest, then there is the mizzen deck Bitts, and the proposed idea for the crew for the hauling sail and the mizzen deck.

Pull the lines over a piece of beeswax before fitting them. This will remove the fuzzyness that you have.

At this scale the fuzzyness is not as noticeable as you would think - and the decks going to get more crowded later anyway.

As it's a plastic kit converted to a sailing boat, the detail is for when it's  out of the water and I don't think anyone is going to be looking quite that close.

Just in from work, bit of a rest then maybe just maybe get the end sailor started.

Ok, First Picture is of the crewman type, the figures worked out are from the internet.

Q - what height were people in the 1800's, A - 168.2 cms or 5' 6" for the imperialists  %) .

therefore, at 1:180 this equates to 9.5 mm rounded up, the arms are 3 mm, body 5.5 mm and the legs 4 mm, though to fix one leg down as shown previously, one is cut at 6 mm.

For some reason the text resizes, so having to start another bit.

The cannons on the sprue.
The 8 crew torso's.
The crew mans torso.
The leg and arms stock material.
Right and left leg, i.e. 4 & 6 mm lengths.
The drill bit.
The badly drilled hole.
The torso and legs glue together and to the cutting mat - Doh.
The crew man assembled, needs painting before fitting to the deck.
So before starting the next bit of assembly will need to get a new set of collets for the Dremel, the one supplied is for the sanding shanks etc and not the drill bit seen, all the other collets I have are for a variety of other types of mini drills.

Well he has two companions now and a third on the way.

Will be better when they are painted to hide the squareness.

And after the white coat - looks like a scene from a comedy film where the whole place is covered in white wash.

just for those observant enough, the guy in the foreground on the left is kneeling and as yet to have his arms attached - (come back and i'll bite your knee caps off - can you remember where that saying comes from? )

And after a bit of detailing, though some appear to have acquired noses, now they look like a convention of badly acting Frankenstiens  %)

Now I have to fit them to the hull, will get this boat finished some day

the first is of 'Elvis' getting a neckachief.

the next two show them in position, though after getting the picture on the computer, it shows the problems with them, like they are not grabbing the line or the paint hasn't covered certain parts or the glue looks like they have wet themselves.

Well, here is the rest of the crew, as yet to be made, 42 to be precise.

Next is an out of focus picture of the kneeling cleaner.

Decided to fit a hand rail on the posts on the mizzen deck.

Then started the stretching cleaner. First his legs are fitted.

Well the Bosun is painted, and apart from getting rid of the paint on his face, he's finished.

Although a lot can be said for the cleaning crew, kneeling man needs finishing off with a hat, and stretching man needs a bit of a touch up - oo-er as frankie howard would say, the rail and first part of the steps are also painted, though most of the area in front over the railing will be scratched off again when the buckets are added.

so tomorrow of to get some fresh matt 61  and 2 mm evergreen rod for buckets.

I am surprised that the phone camera shows up so many errors - considering that the figures are 9.5 to 10 mm high and are just a cannon and bits of plastic rod cut into a length of 8 (used to be 6) 4 x 2 and 5 x 2 mm's and copious amount of liquid glue and paint, and the painting done with tooth picks, sometimes the unpainted guys look better, since as soon as they are painted the gaps that are supposed to be there get filled up.

I am going to try and paint with a bit of the rod that is used for the arms next to see if I can improve the finish.

Yes at this sort of scale I find the camera is more critical than our eyes, but at 1:180 they look fine to me  :-))

The new paint is a bit lighter than the old one and using a small length of plastic rod does appear to be easier to control.

The next set of pictures,

Two crew, one kneeling, the one on the left and one sitting, the one on the right.

Legs ready for crew bodies.

The sitting crewman plus the bucket he is sat on fitted.

The sand buckets and in the background the first of the three Boys, built earlier see picture IMG 0017.

The two other buckets for the cleaning crew and the boy who is carrying the buckets.

The kneeling crewman just needs the paint finishing, and the unfinished sat down crewman (wait till you see what he's up to later)  :} .

These strips of 5 mm high styrene when cut to length are going to be the hammocks in the side racks - so will need to be painted a canvas colour and have black lines to indicate the post and rails, but even I cannot find a mesh small enough to show on the sides or place at the bow where the head is.

And a guy with a pole, there is another walking but haven't a photo of him or the officer up against the rail, trying to see over the sand buckets.   :D

Bit of running repairs,

The crew now hold the rope.

The wooden battens either side of the bell are now painted as is around the deck opening.

The main stair hatch has also been painted.
